Comments about Prior Khyber Splitboard - 2011/2012:

This is a tremendously versatile and fun backcountry board. I have about 15 days on it so far in coastal Alaskan conditions, and I have enjoyed every day. The combination of mild camber under the rider and early rise/rocker on both ends gives this board a very forgiving and smooth ride. It floats over avy debris and breakable crust, and slashes pow with aplomb. I even spent a few hours riding in bounds and was happy with the edging on groomers and the relatively tight sidecut carved pretty well. I like the board's taper as it makes initiating turns very easy and keeps the nose up in deeper stuff. I have not found this deck to have any unpredictable manners, though I have not been out in really icy conditions yet. So far I like it as much as my Voile Mojo from a ride quality stand point. The rockered ends do not seem to detract much from the climbing ability or the board's ability to put the skin on the snow.There are some issues though. The top sheet is butter soft. Whenever I bump it with my ski poles I put a gouge all the way through the sheet to the fiberglass below. Stepping on the deck with a binding crampon on a narrow skin track leaves similar deep dings, and the upper edges seem to have constant, long shavings hanging off from metal edge contact. I like the graphics and all, but the topsheet is the softest I have ever experienced on any board I have owned. Maybe this material is supposed to be light or something, but the Mojo has a way tougher topsheet.The advertised board weight is way off. My 165cm is 8.2 pounds with the supplied Chinese hooks and tip/tail clips. The claimed weight is about half a pound less than that. It is certainly heavier than my Mojo. This is probably not anything you would notice on the hill, but if they can measure the dimensions to the millimeter, I would expect the company to measure weight to 10 grams. They NEVER overestimate weight, so you know it's not an accident.The rest of the construction is not exactly top shelf. The touring brackets are not perfectly side-by-side on the board halves, so the balance point on each ski is slightly different. The recessed screws in the base for the Chinese hooks were drilled too deep, so the screw head sits up in the wood core of the board. I would worry about water penetration or pull-through over time. One board half is a mm or two longer than the other. These are not deal breakers but shows a somewhat loose quality control attitude. The build quality of my Voile Mojo is certainly better.It's still a great and versatile backcountry board and I am happy to own it. It's the one I reach for most days, irrespective of the conditions. I am going to subtract a star due to the weight and construction issues though.
