Comments about Rossignol X6 Combi Cross-Country Ski Boots:
Giving these 3 stars, not because of fit, warmth, quality or durability, but because I found their best use is under specific classic ski conditions. "Combi" boots are a compromise. Experienced skate skiers will find the sole too flexible and experienced classic skiers on good groomed tracks will find the upper and ankle too stiff, with entry/exit about the same as skate boots (noticeably more effort than classic boots due to height and stiffness). Like other mid-upper level Rossi boots, these also conform to one's feet with some initial use.
Originally got these to try skate skiing knowing I could also use them for classic with the flexible sole, thinking I wouldn't have to change boots to switch between skis skiing techniques. Got true skate boots a short time later and found the stiffer sole easier for skate skiing. Did discover the higher and stiffer ankle on these to be useful under some conditions I encounter frequently enough to justify keeping them. There are no groomed trails where I live necessitating some travel to get to them. We do get enough snow during the Winter for skiing in some local parks, but must break my own trail. To do that I use 70mm steel edged BC skis with NNN-BC boots and bindings to create my own tracks in several large loops around the park. After a couple passes on the BC skis, I switch and skis to the narrow 50mm classic (without edges) with NNN bindings, and now these boots instead of the significantly more flexible classic boots I had been using. Much easier on the ankles with better control through tracks created with skis, which will not be nearly as good as those created by grooming sleds and machines.
Some public park groomed tracks get trampled by walkers and snow shoers who either don't know any better to stay off of a groomed ski trail or just don't care. These boots allow greater edge and torque control compared to standard classic boots for trampled tracks that can suddenly become worthless or disappear altogether. This can be particularly disconcerting when attempting to maintain control in more flexible classic boots if this occurs on a steeper downhill, especially if there's a turn in it. The much stiffer upper with higher ankle support compared to standard classic boots has provided the increased torque and edge control to prevent me from crashing under substantially degraded trail conditions.
I recommend these for others, but more for the types of uses and conditions I described, versus skate skiing, or for classic skiing on groomed trails with average to ideal conditions.

Comments about Rossignol X6 Combi Cross-Country Ski Boots:
I ski every day when there's enough snow and many days when there isn't. Mostly classic, rarely skate. I wax and make my own tracks
I've worn out pairs of Salomons, Alpinas and other Rossis. For the price, the X6 is by far the best. They are well made and warm. I like the internal cinch closure. The toe area is nice and roomy. The boot secures the heel well.
The external bracing around the ankle is stiff enough to offer good support and keep you from turning an ankle in the ungroomed.
I wear size US 9. I ordered 43s. They fit me but if you sometimes wear 8.5, I'd start with 42s.

Comments about Rossignol X6 Combi Cross-Country Ski Boots:
Ordered size larger than wear but still too small, esp. toe box--painful immediately. Heel loose; walked 20 feet & felt blister coming (and I NEVER get blisters in my hiking boots). "Speed" or draw string laces could not be tightened. Imagine how hard to continually try to tighten in snow! Impossible to adjust for having room in toe and heel locked in. Foam in tong uneven--bunched up in one boot. Overall extremely poor quality. Made in China. Surprised REI carries such a poor quality product.

Comments about Rossignol X6 Combi Cross-Country Ski Boots:
I have used these mostly for classic skiing and I really have enjoyed them. I like the fit and feel with no break in needed. Do pull the inner laces tight though or you could get some heel slippage with blister potential. These have been warm and comfy for skiing in the tracks and on a variety of rough trails ranging from boot packed to snowmachine trails. I even stepped into some overflow ontop of a lake and my foot stayed dry and warm which was very nice although I would not suggest trying it. I bought these to replace a pair of low cut boots that used to get snow inside when out of track and crushed my toenails due to por design. These have caused no such problems and I am very happy I purchased them.

Comments about Rossignol X6 Combi Cross-Country Ski Boots:
These are decent boots, but it took several attempts to get the right size as it seems they run quite small. I have other European size 46 footwear and it is just fine, normally a men's size 12 or so, but in these I had to have a 49! (which after 2 returns to REI, I actually had to get from somewhere else as REI didn't stock them that high)

Comments about Rossignol X6 Combi Cross-Country Ski Boots:
I've had these boots for a couple of weeks and have been both skate and classic skiing in a variety of early season snow. They work as well as two previous pairs of combi boots I've had, and I'm very happy with them overall. They provide both comfort and control, and at a reasonable price. The only complaint I have is the quick lace system, which is good in theory but the laces tend to slip over time, so one has to stop and tighten them while on the trail. Just remember to push (forcefully) the button in the direction that you want to move the slider.
