Comments about Salomon RS Carbon Skate Boots - Men's:
This is the first skate ski boot I've owned but I've rented several different boots so I have some comparison.
I'm very happy with the fit of the boots; they are overall quite snug but with enough room in the fore foot and mid foot area to not cause cramping or pinching. They are very well padded without feeling too soft. They are slightly too high volume in the heel for me but I've got skinny heels.
I had to size down more than I thought I would, a full size lower than my street shoe, so try on before buying if possible.
The speed lace system is actually very good at holding your foot in securely but you wouldn't necessarily think so on first glance.
For an intermediate skier I've found them to give me plenty of support and power even when pushing hard on firmer snow.
One annoying thing I found is that part of the plastic heel support can rub against the zipper slider and make a little clicking noise when it's zipped up all the way but if you just slide it down a little bit there's no contact.
One other thing to mention is that the plastic tread on the bottom of the boot seems to be quite soft as I noticed a decent amount of wear after walking only a few hundred feet on pavement. Just walk carefully and try to walk mostly on snow.
