      Comments about Rossignol BC 90 Positrack Backcountry Skis:

      I've used this ski occasionally for 2 1/2 seasons now and finally gave up. The grip climbing is very bad in all except the softest snow and slight inclines. Now that I've compared it to other similar skis, I see that this is probably because the ski has very high camber and is very stiff for an XCD oriented ski. Also, there is minimial sidecut, so turning is very difficult. The underfoot width stated here is wrong. In reality it is about 70mm not the 60 listed here (and on Rossi's website). The printing on the ski itself says 68, so there's no good reason for this misstatement. This "old school" straight and stiff ski design make it hard for me to tele-turn on the downhills, even when using plastic boots. The good news is that the high camber, stiff flex and weak waxless pattern make this a very fast ski for what it is. This would make it good for flat long offtrail cruising, I suppose. I replaced these with the Fischer S-Bound 98 (98/69/88) that climbs and turns like a dream by comparison, but at the expense of speed, a trade off I'm willing to take.
