Comments about Atlas 1023 Elektra Snowshoes - Women's:
I am a beginner and these were easy to pull strap to tighten over my boot and they stayed secure. I love the back strap for the heel. This is usually the problem I have found with snoeshoes, especially when in gloves in the cold. It was easy to fasten and stayed secure in comparison to cheaper models. Great for the mid price.

Comments about Atlas 1023 Elektra Snowshoes - Women's:
I used these snowshoes (which were a lovely Christmas present) on several day hikes in the southern Rockies. The snow I 'shoed on appeared fresh, but since the weather had been warm there had been periods of thaw-and-freeze that made it somewhat crunchy and firm. My hikes were mainly uphill one way, downhill on the way home.
Things I like about them: the uphill mode on the snowshoes. This is like a step you can prop up for your heel to rest on for better uphill trekking.
These snowshoes performed very well on the ultra-delicate powder. I sank, but manageably so.
Also, they're very beautiful.
Unfortunately, the one thing that makes these snowshoes a bad set is the heel strap mechanism. While the toe-box area is snug and secure, the plastic strap that holds the heel in from the back is worthless. It constantly undid itself (I must have bent down to re-cinch it every thirty feet), but what's worse is that upon closer inspection, the mechanism doesn't show the possibility of fully clasping shut. The pegs that are supposed to go into the holes in the strap can only make it about halfway in and at a 45-degree angle. Very odd. They should have made the back cinch-strap identical to the clean style up front. I will be mailing these back to REI.
