I haven't been able to hit the trails yet, but these boots have handled everything northern minnesota winter has throw at me. My feet haven't been cold once and they get good traction on ice.

Thanks to REI's return policy, this is my 5th boots that I purchased and tried (inside) until I got the correct fit. I'm a 10.5 regular width and this is a very nice fit. If you carry a big load this will be a great boots to have.

Great Boot!! Complete rip off of ASOLO Khumba at 1/2 price. Great on trail, not so comfortable on pavement, but they are HIKING BOOTS!! I don't like when companies advertise Water Proof/Resistant. My point is NO boot is water proof (unless rubber), resistant maybe for a few hikes and then Gore Tex "B-Dry" fails. Gauranteed!
Gore tex is just marketing! any hiker knows the stuff fails. I've never known it to work for very long.
unfortunately it always raises the price of a boot/jacket etc. Oh Well!
this aside...I love these boots, they are hardcore! and i really put them through the ringer!

Comments about Oboz Beartooth BDry Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots at the end of May 2012. I live in Colorado and enjoy everything it has to offer...maybe too much. I love Oboz's fit. I have a pair of Firebrands and have found that they fit true to size. The Beartooth looked like it would get the job done but fell way short. After 6 months, I will be returning them to REI.
The good is the leather lining and comfy fit. Really no break in required. Great supportive boot. That's where it ends.
The bad is that these boots just simply do not hold up to a beating. I climbed 6 Colorado 14ers this summer and the soles of these puppies are almost worn off. The rubber on the nose of the boot has peeled back and the sides have not been able to withstand rock abrasions. The most concerning for me (and why I am returning them) someone else already mentioned in the reviews. It has to do with the stretch laching connection to the boot (it is rubberized orange). Mine are about worn through and are about to snap which will render the boot useless. It seemed like a good concept and definitely gets the boot to hug your heel...but if you hike in lots of rocks and scree, it wears down and is a single point of failure.
I can only recommend these boots for casual use...not for any serious endevours.

Comments about Oboz Beartooth BDry Hiking Boots - Men's:
This boot has been used on several 14k foot peaks, in two different countries, for up to weeks at a time, through dirt, rocks, long uphill climbs, and level day hikes. The boot did a great job on all terrain that it was subjected to. It has seen light mountaineering use with flex lock crampons. It is a great boot for the more adventurous hiker. I am 6'4" and 225lbs and the boot withstood my large frame fairly well. I have owned the boot now for a full year and though I would give my general thoughts.
On level terrain, the boot is a bit much. Above 60 degrees and hours of casual walking the boot proved too warm for comfort. I often find myself looking for a cool stream to put step in. As it is fully waterproof, it sacrifices some breathability. It is most useful in the 20-50 degree range and with a 10lbs or larger pack on semi rocky to rocky terrain. The sole is very sturdy and the texture of the terrain is rarely felt through. Sharp edges can indeed be felt by putting your weight on it but I feel this is reasonable and necessary. The sides of the boot are also quite sturdy with protection going up well above the ankle. Grip is good and I have only lost my footing one time about 20 feet from the summit of a 14k Colorado peak, but this was due more to my loss of concentration than shortcomings with the boot. It served well on the Inca trail in Peru with a 40lbs pack for four days. I can recall only two blisters on a foot during the first 20 or 25 miles of break in. Unless you really kick a stone or footstep, my toes never reached the front of the boot and regular descent's were never a problem. The laces are strong and hold well. The laces bring me to my biggest problem with the boot.
The problem and reason that this boot only gets three stars is stems from a compromising problem directly under the lace hooks. It is the orange strap that holds the metal clip that in-turn, holds onto the nylon loop which finally connects to the boot lace. This is arguably the most important lace connector because it is the location where the foot laces connect with rest of the boot. The design of this boot uses what seems to be a soft leather material at the widest and point of the boot and prone to abrasion (see red circle of picture if it works). If this were to fail as I guess it would under the right circumstances, the laces would become nearly useless.
As a hole, this is a pretty solid product and as seen many miles now. In the year I have owned it, it has never failed under some pretty gritty trails.

Great solid boot. More like a leather boot in firmness and support. Lace design really pulls your foot into the back of boot.
Service and delivery comments:
I bought them online. 10.5 they were too snug after a fully loaded 1/2 day training hike. When I took the used boots in to the store they exchanged them for an 11 no problem. REI you are the best!

So I bought these boots because they look nice and out of all the hiking boots these got the best review for the price. I wore them everywhere for a couple weeks trying to break them in. Even with the "break in" time these boots MURDER my feet. I went on a 2 night backpacking trip and basically came home limping the last day. These literally bruised the top of my feet! You could see the outlines of the laces! I tried loosening them but then they would slip and chew my heel. Maybe I didnt break them in good enough I dont know, but apparently they dont flex at all while your walking and just destroy your feet. I could try breaking them in more but honestly they are just too painful to even break in so I will be returning these

Great ankle support! A very solid boot that (for me) has a great fit. Be sure that you give it enough break-in time (I didn't).

Ok so i had these boots for 2 months and tried to break them in so I would not get blisters and to no avail . I tried a pair of low volume superfeet insoles and that did not help .the heel does not fel tight enough and i got blistes on the back of my heels everytime i wore them . these boots are probably ok for people with narrow feet but wide feet need not waste your time or money . I have sent them back and thats why I love REI

Comments about Oboz Beartooth BDry Hiking Boots - Men's:
Fantastic fit and comfort right out of the box. If you are used to lighter weight hikers, these will feel a little stiff and heavy. If, however, you are like me and used to the old-school heavy duty backpacking hiking boots, these will feel like nearly nothing on your feet. Relatively light weight and extremely comfortable.
