Pass on this
The flimsy grill does not adequately disperse heat so food burns quickly. The temperature control does not resolve this. We tried on a couple of occasions using different temperatures but all ended up burning to get food heated through. After the 3rd use the ignitor gave out and we had to use a match. The one asset for this stove is the hose to attach fuel to stove: much more efficient than the Coleman that has a straight/stiff arm. The wind guards are better on this one, too, but without proper heating, what's the point? This is going back as it's not up to par. We're thinking to get the 2-burner with a Lodge griddle.
Quality product but a second rate grill
Before you buy this product you should be aware when you use the grill you must constantly rotate the food in order to have them cook evenly. I made the mistake of thinking this might be a suitable grill to use at home. This is merely a convenient, duel purpose appliance that is best used while camping. I will note that I was mostly satisfied with the quality of the craftsmanship. Everything seems to be put together well and I suspect the unit will last a very long time. My only gripe is that the connection between the lid and the side panels (when the lid is in the up position) is rather flimsy and does not fit securely. Other than that the product was built very well.
So far so good
So far I've only used this at home. I've used it to grill hamburgers and steaks and the stove for beans. I was impressed by how quickly it got the job done. Although at times it can be hard to tell how high you have your settings. A few burgers were on the well done side, but I think after I grow accustom to it, things will come out better. I also bought it while on sale for [$]. So far, I think it was a great purchase. The true test will come with camping.
Does the Job
Despite all the poor reviews at the REI site, the camp stove worked very well. The camp stove is built well, and seems as sturdy as most other camp stoves out there. The grill grate is made from a coated aluminum, but is sturdy enough. The single burner has a very sturdy pot grate, and gets quite hot. Over the weekend we cooked Carne Asada on the grill, and quesadillas. There is adequate grill temperature control, however the grill grate definitely gets hottest across the middle, but that's easy to work around. Grease trap also worked great, and was easy to remove for cleaning. My only real gripe with this stove is the igniter was hit or miss. I could definitely see it sparking, however it only started the flame 25% of the time. I would definitely bring a long necked lighter in your kitchen kit to light this up. Clean up was also a little challenging, but I challenge anyone to find me a camp stove with grill that's easy to field clean. Anyway, the stove did its job, and I expect to get a quite a few camping seasons out of it.
Primus stove
Wind screens are cumbersome to set up and carry handle cuts into your fingers. Overall a nice stove though.
