    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Rated4out of5byfromLove but check the handle! We use 7 of these at our off-the-grid site where 45 students live each summer. They have been awesome! (Much better than making coffee in bulk by straining it over a pot of boiling water for 45 minutes!) However, I have had to get replacements for 3 in the past year because the handle falls off. REI is great about returns so no worries there- just try to check the handle before buying!

For years we dealt with a cumbersome camp percolator but it kept getting broken or clogged. I introduced the french press (cafetiere) but my first model was too small and its poor design let grinds past the filter and into the cup. This model will make 5-6 mugs of good quality coffee and keep it warm even on frigid campouts. The spring-loaded filter edge ensures grinds can't leak past it, and a mesh on the spout is extra insurance. Cleanup is simple and you need no supplies other than coffee! It's solidly built and I couldn't be happier!

Rated5out of5byfromGreat Way to Make CoffeeTo make good coffee you need good water at or near 195° F, good coffee beans, a way to maintain that temperature and a way to separate the finished coffee from most of the grounds. This coffee press handles the last two parts nicely. If you will be making your coffee at higher altitudes this press excels because it is vacuum insulated. The boiling point of water, 212° F at sea level, drops almost 2° for every 1000 feet in altitude. Boiling water cools very rapidly at first even at lower elevations. When you are starting with water only a few degrees above 195° you want to do everything possible to maintain that heat. So, I preheat the press with near boiling water before I start and try to work quickly. I live at 500 ft elevation, so I have a little more time to work with. You may vary any part of this to suit your own taste, but this is my own starting point. •Preheat press by adding boiling water. Be sure to put the lid on. •Grind the beans. I use 2 tablespoons per 8 oz water. •Measure the water before heating. Heat to a boil. •Dump preheat water, add grounds and hot water. Place lid on press and start timing. •Every minute or so, swirl press to stir coffee/water mix. I try to do this after 1, 2 and 3 minutes. I do not stir again to allow grounds to settle. This makes pressing easier. •At 4 minute point I press. •Pour. I prefer to store any coffee not served right away in a separate vacuum bottle. I have been ok with coffee left for 15 minutes in press, but transferring to another container will prevent over extraction and actually keeps coffee hotter. By the way, if you want sediment free coffee, then this press may not be for you. You may want to explore some method which uses paper filters. One of the good things about press made coffee is I can control of so many variables, especially time and temperature and of course, the amount of coffee I use. I like to grind my own coffee so I can control that aspect as well. Enjoy Charles

Rated5out of5byfromMakes great coffee!I really wanted a durable, portable coffee maker, one that was large enough to make plenty for seconds or for sharing with fellow campers. I love French Press coffee to begin with but was having a hard time finding one that wasn't made of glass or too small for camping with friends. REI has made exactly what I was looking for. I've made coffee in it several times now and it does not disappoint!
