Comments about Osprey HydraForm Insulated Delivery System:
I haven't used this in freezing temperatures so I can't speak to such use. My use has been in hot, dusty, and the sandy environments of Southern California on day hikes and training at the beach. Generally speaking, at some point, you're going to take your pack off and when you do that you can save yourself a few minutes of cleaning by keeping the bite valve covered. I also found that it's an excellent improvement in keeping your water cold - which in high temperatures is quite wicked. I suppose my one complaint is that I've yet to really try to take off the tubing to insure that there is no algae accumulation and it takes a little extra work to feed it through the pack (I use it with a Kestrel 48).

Comments about Osprey HydraForm Insulated Delivery System:
The insulation prevents temperature gain and loss as the term insulation implies. It works well for slowing/preventing the heating of liquid as it is exposed to sun. As one review states, the insulation may not work too well in cold/freezing temperatures. I haven't used it in freezing temperatures, so I reserve that experiment for you. I personally find the prevention of heat absorption to be of more value.

Comments about Osprey HydraForm Insulated Delivery System:
I know you aren't supposed to use hydration packs for winter camping because the tubes freeze so fast, but isn't that what this is trying to prevent? Even taking sips every ten minutes and then closing the zipper, the entire tube and mouthpiece froze solid, resulting in some seriously epic water-making while dehydrated in the Adirondacks in December. If it's cold enough to need this insulating sleeve, then it's cold enough to simply leave it home and rely on bottles warmed against your body and nothing else. False sense of security!
