Comments about Merrell Sonic Glove Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
i really like this shoe. it is very comfortable, and i have developed a distaste for arch support. the toebox is roomy, and these are a great alternative to vibram vff's as far as minimalism goes. i like to hike and trail run in them.unfortunately, the merrell glove line seems to have a constant issue with layers of mesh inside the shoe coming loose - they just can't seem to sew them in securely -a shame for such an otherwise great shoe. i thought they had solved the issue after problems with the true glove and the trail glove. i hate having to get down into this [$] shoe with shoe-goo and needle and thread to keep the innards intact. until they resolve this issue, i'm not sure i will buy another pair. i have two pairs, and this has happened to both.

Comments about Merrell Sonic Glove Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
These are great shoes! I owned a pair of VFF Sprints for about 2 years, and these take the barefoot sole design I loved about the VFF's while resolving many of my complaints about them. 2 days after getting my Sonic Gloves, I wore them to a 3 day outdoor festival, no socks, and probably hiked a good 10 miles over a few days and my feet loved every minute of it! Since then I've worn them sockless from the 105 degree summer days (protect from pavement heat very well) down to 60 degree nights sitting outside, and with socks they're comfortable down to around 50 (maybe colder, we'll see).
For starters, they are very comfortable. The little bit of extra padding and sole means I can spend the day walking on sidewalks and paved surfaces in town without limping the home stretch, and rocky trails are done with much greater comfort than in the VFF's. The full coverage and normal toe design means I can go tromping down a trail without fear of stubbing my toes on a stump or scraping my feet up. They also do a great job of keeping out debris whereas I found myself constantly taking off my Sprint's (Not KSOs) to empty out sand, gravel and twigs. These aren't water shoes, but I never really thought of the Sprint's as such because once either shoe gets wet, it stays wet until you hang it to dry for a half a day. The upside to these is they seem fairly water resistant, a feature I put to test recently while dancing (another activity these are great for) outside during a 3hr torrential downpour. My feet stayed dry until I was stomping in 2" of water, or up to the bottom of the tongue, but that's far better than the 1/4" it would take to get soggy feet in the Vibram's, and they were comfortable to wear completely soaked without creating mud inside from debris mixing with wet feet. My feet will sweat slightly in these, causing a moderate funk to develop (both issues I had with the Sprint's as well) so washing once a week is preferred. The great thing about these though is that I can comfortably wear socks ranging from ultra-thin running socks to my SmartWool light hikers, which helps greatly with odor, sweat and warmth if its cold.
I have experienced the fabric inside coming slightly unglued as previously mentioned. Maybe it's because I'm not a runner, but this doesn't seem to be an issue as when I'm wearing them (sockless) I can't tell at all. Also the stiffness mentioned goes away once you wear them in.
All in all, an excellent choice for an all around shoe that works just as well in town as on the trail. I have considered the trail gloves but I decided I'd rather have sweaty feet when it's hot than damp feet when it's wet, and the design on these is just so cool!

Comments about Merrell Sonic Glove Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
Evaluated several other types of minimalist trail runners and these are hands down the best. I've logged 200+ miles so far, all trails and with extremely rocky, rough and - at times - fully submerged rain/creek terrain. Light on the foot but even when wet are 100% responsive. Sole and fabric are very durable - I typically tear up shoes in the first 50-100 miles and, except for mud stains, these things are holding up perfectly. Easy lace/grommet configuration for getting in and out and the fit is, well, like a glove.
As a note on my running style, I run exclusively aggressive, trail-only, steep, wet, rocky, root-covered, uneven, deer-path-improvised, long (10+ mile) endurance training and exploration on Mt. Tam.

Have only put about 30 miles on them but haven't had any of the issues that are posted and they are no worse for the wear

Comments about Merrell Sonic Glove Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
Honestly, I've only worn them around the house a bit to try them out. Good concept, but the soft-shell material feels pretty cheap. It's thin and stiff like cardboard. After trying them out for a few minutes, the outside looked crinkled up and worn. Also the material in the inside of the shoe isn't secured in place very well in some places. I like the idea. I hope Merrell will work on the design a bit, and maybe I'll get a pair. I'm going to exchange them for the Trail Glove.
