by fromdidn't work out for me I bought a pair of these shoes in my size and the edge around the heel cut into my ankle bones and really hurt my heels. I exchanged them for a half size bigger and put insoles in them to lift my feet more. This helped with the ankle part but over the course of a week and a half I developed a serious bruise on the back of my heels that still hurts nearly a month later. They are extremely stiff. I would not recommend these for a friend. They are the first pair of merrell's that have not been great shoes.

by fromVery disappointed I am so disappointed in these. I actually had one of the fitters help me. They felt OK in the store. I started to break them in on our local bike path. The inside back of the heel has no cushioning. I had red marks and a bruise. I usually wear a size 8 or 8 1/2. I got the larger size. I have tried breaking them in. I have tried three kinds of socks. Last I installed one of those heel liner cushions--now they feel too small. I got them for a trip to Europe, so I would not be wearing footwear that screams American tourist-- they look so cute. I'll keep trying to break them in, but with the rubber on the outside of the back heel, I do not know if that is even possible. What I wish I could do is return them--they were pretty expensive, even with my REI discount. So I'll have to shop around for something that feels better.

by fromVery uncomfortable I agree wholeheartedly with the previous 1 star review...these shoes are terribly stiff and uncomfortable for me, after multiple attempts at breaking them in over the last year. I officially give up.

by fromThey look good, but that's about it. The Good: These shoes are low profile, a nice greyscale color profile (the Black at least), and look just as good with jeans as they do with shorts. The Bad: There is zero padding in the heel cup. This meant that the first time I wore them I lost all the skin on the backs of my ankles and couldn't wear them again for a week. I also am a 6.5 across the board in shoes of all kinds, and I needed a 7 in these. Size-wise, the 7.5 felt way too big and slipped around, so keep this in mind when I talk about the fit. The Ugly: Along with the lack of padding, the heel cups are hard to break in. They don't yield much because they are reinforced with rubber. I have fairly normal shaped feet, though I have high arches, and these shoes are incredibly tight around the widest part of the foot. In order to wear them still, after owning them for a few weeks, I have to use a blister block, Smartwool socks, and bandages to make it through a day. Not sure I'd recommend them. I'm stubbornly trying to break them in before my trip to Africa in 5 days because I don't really have another option. Additionally, Merrell has no response on their Facebook wall for how to deal with shoes that refuse to be broken in. They don't appear to stand behind their products when it comes down to the nitty gritty, though I've never tried to engage them over the phone, etc.

by fromCute. but stiff, hurts ankle bones Sides of shoe are too high. Hurts ankle bones. Stiff material there. Love them. So cute with jeans and not big and clunky! Been looking for more streamlined sneakers like these for a long time. (I have big feet)

by fromGreat shoes after breaking in These seemed to fit me great in the store and were super comfortable. But the first time I wore them out, the backs of my ankles were rubbed raw. The top of the back of the shoe is very stiff. I soaked the area in rubbing alcohol, stretched it out by hand, dried it with a hairdryer, and repeated several times as needed. This may not be good for the shoe, so be careful, but it did eventually work for me, and I can wear them just fine now. I would recommend bringing some bandages the first time you wear these, in case they rub your ankles too. Other than that, they're great shoes. Lightweight, very cute, but also practical if you're walking around a lot and they hold up in rain. I'm very tempted to get some more colors.
