Comments about Elie Strait 120 Kayak:
I just brought this boat home last night and took it for the first time today for a 4 hour paddle on flat water. It's beautiful and tracks well, with good maneuverability but is tippier than I was led to believe. The weight is not bad though I can't lift it to my car (sedan) carrier on my own. The rear handle to carry the boat is awkwardly placed and made it fairly uncomfortable for the 500 yd hike up and down a hill. The boat kept bumping my thigh.I am a middle aged woman. I would not recommend this for a novice paddler. I made an unplanned wet exit at the end of the trip just getting out of the boat. It might be that I need a little more practice with this particular boat. Also when I practiced getting in & out on dry ground my heels kept catching the seat bottom.

Comments about Elie Strait 120 Kayak:
For the money this is one very good overall package. I purchased it during an REI sale so it was an even better value. The one manufacturer mod I would suggest is a bow bulkhead. Initially the boat took on a little water. Two things cured the problem - I installed small rubber washers on the footbrace screws and also ran a bead of clear caulk around the front hatch bezel. The bow does kick up water so spray skirt is helpful. I have a kevlar and a glass boat - this is my fun, take anywhere, anytime boat.

Comments about Elie Strait 120 Kayak:
I've rented kayaks for a number of years and had been researching lightweight kayaks to purchase. This past Mother's Day, our family made the trek to REI and ordered my Elie Strait 120. I've taken this kayak out a handful of times in the past 2 months on both river and lakes - in light current, chop and smooth waters. This kayak has handled beautifully in all. It is very stable, and tracks really well. With a long bow, I stayed dry even when exposed to pretty heavy chop.
I am 5'10" and have long legs that have made entry in some of the other women's light weight kayaks difficult. The Elie Strait 120 has lots of room for easy entry and there is plenty of leg room within.
I am able to lift and carry the kayak without any problem and am getting more proficient at sliding it into a Thule "Glide and Set" on top of our van.
There is a fair amount of storage and it might be possible to do an overnighter with compact gear. The hinged storage hatch is really easy to use and the dry sack they've incorporated into the front is handy.
The one thing I would do to alter this design is to add a bulkhead in the bow of the boat. I'm planning on putting a floatation device in.
I love this kayak - it is one that is suitable for paddlers of varied experience and perfect for women.
