Comments about The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket - Men's:
The ideal warmth: I can see why it's a classic, coveted down jacket providing the best "warmth" and comfort range in the cold conditions..
The North face Nuptse was ideal for the blackouts in the Southern CA areas during the windstorm. I was looking for some winter warmth gear to go up to the snow with my wife and son a week before the Windstorms that took out the power for the San Gabriel Valley area. Thank God, that the jackets and gear arrived for my family, amongst of which was the Nuptse. I enjoyed that the minute you put it on it was instant warmth, it was in total contrast to the thunder jacket I had which was just on fire when you had it on for a while. This Jacket was excellent in keeping a constant warm temperature.
The materials that went into this jacket is just top notch with the 50D mini-ripstop weave nylon, 700 fill goose down. Talk about durability; my son was chewing on the double-layer taffeta portion of it while I was holding him that night to put him into bed. I thought that the jacket was done for but, to my surprise, there were no teeth marks not even a scratch…
On a side note, I'm 6' 2" and built a little on the thin side and this jacket's medium size was just fit. I would have appreciated an inch more in the length of the jacket. However, that doesn't stop me from giving this jacket 5 stars. Thanks for making such an excellent product TNF!!!

Comments about The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket - Men's:
As far as down jackets go, it is a pretty nice one. It is not quite as lofty (a 700 fill instead of 800) as some other ones out there, which is kind of a drag when you are out around a campfire on a cold evening. I really like the big zipper and pull tab, which is easy to locate and pull up when you need to get the jacket on in a hurry. Not having a hood is definitely a double edged sword. Normally I wear a hat or a hood underneath (this is also good for adding a bit of warmth because of the aforementioned 700 fill down) and I don't really like hoods, but having one is nice because it is one less thing to pack and throwing it on over a hat on super cold belays would be nice. There is a lack of down under the arms too and I am not too sure if this is standard for down puffy jackets, but it would be nice if there were more. Lastly, because it is a North Face Jacket, it is pretty stylish, which is always a nice bonus.

Comments about The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket - Men's:
It was simple... I needed a multi-use jacket for work and play and the last thing I wanted was another non-functional outlet mall coat. After suffering (freezing) for two winters in Northern Virginia, wearing bulky coats or pea coats that promised warmth but failed; I gave in.
Several friends had recommended a down (500-600g) coat/jacket but most of those coats were out of my comfort zone based on price or style preferences. I'm 5'11" (1.8m) with an average build and this item fit comfortably loose. I often wear a suit or sport coat and this item actually looks good as an overcoat.
After I walked around the store for a few minutes the warmth of the coat was evident. Since it was blustery cold day and I was ill prepared I bought it and hoped I got what I paid for.
Needless to say, I was immediately impressed - I've since put it to the test on various work sites (outdoors) as well as two snowy hikes in the mountains.
When standing/walking around in the wind and cold it's plenty warm. When it came to backpacking in 15-20 degree weather, 700g was actually too warm for me. So, being down, it stuffed into my pack with ease. It's as light as most fleece jackets and much, much, warmer.
After wearing it for several months now, I don't really have any complaints; maybe just a couple of observations or suggestions.
It repels light rain and snow but I seriously doubt it would do well in heavy rain. The shell is the consistency of a soft umbrella fabric so it's definitely not rugged. I haven't noticed any tears and it hasn't lost any feathers or started piling and I'm not very careful with it.
It has (2) medium insulated pockets with drawstring adjustments for the waist inside. The sleeve/cuff closures are Velcro and elastic to adjust for gloves. There isn't a hood or interior pockets so you'll probably only carry something lightweight.
Overall, this is the best coat I've owned for moderate activity and spending hours in cold/windy days outside... and it looks good!
The coldest I've worn it was walking from a subway to a hotel in NY for a 5-6 blocks in 5 degrees wind chill... no problems at all.

Comments about The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket - Men's:
It's been between -15 and -25°C here in Anchorage the past week or so. My layering of pile and a wind top were feeling too bulky and heavy. This jacket is light, comfortable and definitely keeps me warm in these temps. I have not yet checked it in heavy snow, but it would probably require a breathable windbreaker on top to function at top performance in those conditions.
My only extra wish is that it would have a vertical chest zipper to allow a cell phone or other device to be accessible from outside, but would remain inside the insulation to keep it warm.
Seems durable & the zipper has not caught on the fabric, which has been a problem with some of my other down & light fill jackets.
