Comments about Merrell Falconry Tri-Therm Down Jacket - Women's - 2010 Closeout:
I'm 5'9", 140 pounds, and I was wondering whether to get a small or a medium. I got a medium, and Im glad I did. It fits great. The sweater fits snugly, which is how it should fit I think to retain body heat and keep you warm. (Also I am tall and I have no problem with the length of it. If I had wanted parka length Id have ordered it. I wanted a jacket.)I got the jacket in black, but was unsure about what looks like grey accents around the shoulders and sides in the website's picture. The picture does not represent the jacket well. This jacket is ALL BLACK (which I was very happy to find out) there is no grey. The parts that look grey in the picture are actually also black, but a kind of checkerboard pattern that only registers slightly when it reflects light in a certain way (see picture). I had been looking all over for a 3-in-1 jacket, and this does the trick, and also doesnt look too outdoorsy-- Ill definiIely wear it around the city. While I am glad i didnt pay $500 for this one, I think its a *steal* for [$]. You are getting three jackets for the price of what a down sweater usually costs on its own. The warm down sweater is also all black, and has standard horizontal ribbing-- no weird or angled stitching or patterns. It is lightweight but 800-fill, and is made of a very soft fabric, not stiff. I havent had any problems with feather shedding, but maybe that remains to be seen. The sweater also has moleskin warmer lining in the sleeves, around the collar, and in the pockets, which is very cozy. The jacket also has an hourglass shape at the bottom of it, but thankfully also has elastic pulls at the bottom on either side that can be used to taper it more. The nice thing about the sweater being thin is that the jacket, when all put together, does not look too bulky or poofy, but it still keeps you warm. This is a jacket that is designed to keep cold out, but also mainly designed to keep body heat in. Wear it for 20 minutes and you'll really start to feel it heat up.I agree with the other users that the zipper on the outer jacket pooches out around the mid section, but I dont think thats a deal breaker. I guess it would depend on your body type. I also just expect some stiffness from waterproof zippers-- I also think itll soften over time. Oh, and the sweater snaps inside the outside jacket, rahter than zipping-- but the snaps are concealed on the sweater, so if you are just wearing it, you cant see them. The outer jacket is a nice looking all black, hooded (hood does not remove) rain jacket. When this jacket is zipped up all the way, and the hood is on, I find that the top of the zipper hits a bit high under the chin/throat. Not comfortable, but also, not the end of the world. And the exterior jacket also has elastic pulls to taper it at the bottom if you want.I also especially recommend this jacket to anyone who is not a big fan of labels and prominently featured brand names. Merrell is written discreetly on the front lower pocket, so you can avoid normal breast pocket-area branding. All in all, good deal. What I was looking for, and a perfect jacket for city bar to camping cabin.

Comments about Merrell Falconry Tri-Therm Down Jacket - Women's - 2010 Closeout:
I thought I would love this jacket but the first time I removed the down liner one of the snaps tore out and the liner sheds feathers constantly. The quality is not what I expected for the price and being sold at REI. Like another reviewer said it really does pooch out right under the chest and make you look pregnant. It is the way the zipper lays. It is just wrong. But it is warm and the color is pretty. I also like the comfort and the stretch of the material.

I was looking for a new jacket to keep me warm in Minnesota winters, and this wasn't it. At 17 degrees Fahrenheit I was shivering by the time I walked the three blocks to the grocery store. I have a long torso and it wasn't long enough for me, either. It was really comfortable and the sleeves never bunched, but overall wasn't what I was looking for.

Comments about Merrell Falconry Tri-Therm Down Jacket - Women's - 2010 Closeout:
I was looking for a coat that would keep me warm & dry when skiing in AK. I didn't want to invest in a huge ski jacket that I would only wear for for skiing. I just don't like big, bulky, coats and I only ski 10 to 12 times a winter. This jacket seems like a good compromise. The liner of this coat is as nice as my Marmot down sweater with a better hourglass cut at the bottom. I've been wearing it a lot & it's warm and sporty. I'm hoping this coat will meet the ski hill needs AND also get a lot of use all year long. Since it is not a big ski jacket, you do compromise perks like a nice big collar to keep your face & chin out of the elements, but I'll just add a gaiter. The shell has nice stretch to it and does not restrict movement. The only hesitation I had about keeping this coat is the shell pooches out right under the chest. There is a seam that does an ark under the chest that causes it. I'm sure some acquaintances will wonder if I'm expecting. My friend said she didn't notice till I pointed it out, but be warned as it does not lay like it should. All in all, I think it will be a versatile 4 season jacket for life in AK.

I am 5'3 & about 120lbs (most days). I am of a petite build but trying to gain some good muscle weight. This jacket is true to size.
Only thing that I find distasteful is the fact that it flares out on the sides, at the bottom. There's no need for it. It serves no purpose, other than being annoying. But it's certainls not a deal breaker. O, & one other thing, the feathers seem to come out of the down jacket from time to time. It's not abundant or over whelming, but a slight concern. I guess only time will tell how much weight that issue will really hold. This seems to be the case in all three of the down jackets that I've tried out, so I'm not sure if that's just the way it goes, or if that can ever be obsolete?
The jacket is incredibly light and resillient. I hail from Long beach Ca, but live in Huntington Baach, ca. I utilize this Jacket most when its raining/windy, or when it's just plain cold outside (50's or lower), especially early mornings. I'm an early bird.
I intend on using it for backpacking. My intentions are to join SAR towards the end of the year, therefore I would like a very warm yet lightwieght jacket. Thus far, it's been great, especially at the phenominal discounted $ that I paid.

This was a disappointment, as the length goes only just at the hips and doesn't cover the lower back. Nicely lightweight, nice appearance, runs a little small. Seems quite warm, but I returned immediately.
