Comments about Marmot Zeus Half-Zip Down Jacket - Men's:

I have been searching for an 800-fill down midlayer for winter hiking trips and/or ski trips, and the biggest challenge has been finding one that fits my slim frame AND has sleeves that are long enough. Having tried on jackets from every major outdoor brand I could find, I settled on the Zeus Pullover (Gargoyle) due to fit and price. The fit is true to size and the sleeves are about a 1/2" longer than most other jackets, which works well for me since I need a 37in sleeve. I am 6'5" and 205lb, and I went with a size-LARGE to ensure a good, slim fit. There is just enough room to move easily, but not too much room that is counteracts the insulative properties of the down. Having only used the jacket for casual wear at this point, the only real issue with the jacket has been the challenge of getting it on an off easily. For me, this is not a huge issue, and I think the pros far outweight that single con at this point. The other review claims that the fabric is too lightweight, tears easily and is not easily patched, but I have not had a chance to test the gear against that issue yet. The shell and interior fabric are 100% polyester and identical to the material used in the REI brand sleeping bags. The material is designed to be thin to reduce weight and uninhibit the transfer of thermal energy between the down and the body. The closer you are the down the warmer you will feel. There will always be tradeoffs with gear, and durabilty vs weight is one of those areas that will always be up for debate. I lean more towards minimalist hiking, so every ounce matters to me. This weekend's hiking trip will offer a chance to test the jacket's durability, and I will update my review accordingly. At face value, I think the Marmot Zeus Pullover (Gargoyle) is good value for the money at the sale price of [$], and I would recommend this product to someone looking for a low-cost down midlayer.
