Comments about Merrell Thermadore Down Jacket - Men's - 2010 Closeout:
warm soft jacket that has a very thin outer shell.I have worn this jacket 2 times just to drive to work and feathers are already starting to pop out.It is very soft and comfortable but I'm really not expecting much life out of this jacket. If it doesn't last 6 months I will return it. I feel that [$] is too much for this.

Comments about Merrell Thermadore Down Jacket - Men's - 2010 Closeout:
This jacket looked like it had all the right things; It was high-power down, I could turn it into a vest, it was lightweight, and it seemed warm.
Unfortunately, the ultimate failing point is the shell. The shell is not durable. I wore this casually around town and when off-site for my office job and it would not stop leaking down. It also developed a small hole in the shell at the bottom of my left wrist. This would not stand up to regular outdoors activities.
I ended up returning this item to REI.
It was very good weight-to-warmth ratio I thought. The fit was okay, although a bit poofy in the stomach (not an athletic fit) but not the worst I've seen on down jackets. I had a Medium of this jacket and I usually wear Mediums in other jackets. I am 5'9" and 180lbs.
It has small-ish pockets, although a nice lining in the pockets. The color is horrendous. It looks like a jacket from the 1970s. You will not be flattering yourself wearing this, although the design of the baffles would make this not too shabby looking in another color.
The water-repelling of the shell is about on par with what I expect of a down jacket. Was fine with no down clumping up while in a drizzle/light-rain for 20 minutes.
Bottom line: If you're only looking for casual wear and need a down jacket on an extreme budget, this may be for you. Otherwise, just get a synthetic jacket or save your money and get a different down jacket.

Yet to test in any manner other than walking around town. But it's warm, the zippers are nice, the fit is good, and the sleeves zip off to make a vest. Plus, got it on closeout.

Comments about Merrell Thermadore Down Jacket - Men's - 2010 Closeout:
Bought this to use on fall backpacking trips. It is extremely warm but lacks in two areas that are causing me to return it. First the material it is made of is not durable enough. I developed a slight tear in the back after one day of use underneath a hard shell jacket. The shell of this jacket is just not made of a decent ripstop material. Maybe for casual use around town but not for out in the woods. Second the material lets the down feathers out. In other jackets I was considering there was specific mention that the material had pores smaller than the quills on the feathers so they wouldn't escape. This jacket doesn't appear to be this way. Feathers routinely poke out of the jacket. I could see in a couple of years losing a bunch of the fill.
