These are the greatest pants. I got them for hiking and have used them throughout the winter. The fabric is a little heavier so somewhat warmer. In 25 degree weather I only wore very lightweight thermals while hiking. While everyone else had to stop to put on rain pants, I didn't need to as the water pilled up and ran off. I have beat them to death going through brush, against trees and rocks and have even fallen on a path with sharp rocks only to wash them and have they look like new again. They are stretchy and give when you move so very comfortable. There is a zipper and Velcro at the cuffs so you can remove boots or tighten the cuff down. I am 5'5", 145 lbs, I bought a 12 petite and they fit well. I have 2 pair mostly because the second pair went on sale and it was too good to pass up.

Although the first description line suggest backcountry skiing, a close look a the photo confirmed by a phone call yields the information that these pants would not fit over ski boots! Too bad, because otherwise they do look ideal for backcountry skiing (with waterproof overpants when required).

Comments about REI Acme Pants - Women's Petite:

I bought these pants a year ago and love them so I ordered a second pair last week. I just received them and these pants have noticeable differences: they do not feel as durable of a material and are lacking the warm pocket liners my other pants have. Since the price of both pants are the same, I feel they have declined a bit in quality. If they are on sale, they are worth it. I wear them all winter with long underwear and stay warm and dry and the petite size fits perfectly.
