Rated5out of5byCOClimberGirlfromPatagonia Goretex!I was in the market for a new all purpose water proof, wind proof shell. I have always been a fan of Goretex and their products and have been impressed with the longevity of the pieces made with this material and their lifetime warranty. I have an old Northface Goretex that still serves me well after years of abuse, hence, when it came time to get a new one I knew I had to get one made of goretex.
I was initially considering an Arc'teryx piece but the price urged me to look elsewhere. I've owned a few patagonia base layers, active wear pants and soft shells and were always pleased at the quality and stylishness of the brand so I looked at their hard shells. I was considering the Triolet initially but didn't like the fit and feel of the 3 layer gore jacket. Then I tried the Piolet in the bright green in XS size and it felt and looked perfect. I was immediately sold on this jacket and decided to buy it.
I've used it on a handful of trips climbing a couple of 14ers in the Colorado front range in the cold snowy spring and it did not disappoint. It was amazing at blocking wind. It is also light enough to just wear around town on a dreary rainy day. The colors are bright and stylish, and the fit is spot on. I normally complain about how the sleeves on patagonia jackets are too long for me being a tiny girl of 5'3"/108lbs, but not the Piolet. It is still roomy enough to accomodate layers but not too big that it looks like a burlap sack on my small frame.
I'm really impressed with this jacket. It is a versatile piece that will work for almost all situations-- be it rain, wind or snow. If you can only get one jacket for everything, this is it!
