Great
I use this for my 9 month old boy. It is soooo stable, I couldn't believe it. Way smoother than the bike trailer that my 2 yr daughter old has to sit in. My son is so snug and secure in it and the hinderance to me is nearly unnoticeable. I use it everyday-about 6 miles a day on paved trails w/ my Trek hybrid. Many reviews said it wouldn't fit, but it works great. I took my bike into REI before I bought it just to make sure. A small price to pay to be able to take my 9 month old with me on bike rides. And when he does turn 1 year, I'm sure I'll continue to use the Yepp b/c it is so smooth and gives him a better view. Great product.
Been around the block with this - it rocks.
Strategically the best place for a seat. I've ridden with my son on the Yepp Mini likely over 2000 miles- Love it. In the years before my son - I was an avid cyclist riding between 5-10,000 miles a year - and never really though about a kids seats. But once my son arrived I couldn't give up cycling - the alternatives other kids bike seats put all the weigh the toward the back of the bike, making the bike less stable and harder to ride safely. - the Yepp mini make the bike More stable and fun. My son loved it from the first rides ASKING "Bike Ride", and crying if I wouldn't be taking him with me. Best part I have full visibility of the road and him while we ride and we are able to interact -talk- we spent time singing songs and learning the numbers to 20, the Alphabet song. The seat keeps us interacting and him interested (Now he says "Car back", "on your left" and all the cyclist "Speak") from the day it was safe to ride (he could hold his head stable with a helmet until today almost 2 years. The seat is rated to 33 lbs and I nearly can't imagine making him sit behind me because he's getting to the Yepp mini weight limit. I wish for a Yepp Mini Plus with a higher weight limit.
Toddler loves it!
Had used a trailer and switched to this, what a difference! Daughter loves it, and now we only use our Chariot Cougar 1 trailer when weather is bad, or on rides where a long nap is welcome. For ordinary running back and forth to school the Yepp is far better. Less drag, less length of bike, plus closer to your kid. Have mine mounted on a Yuba Boda Boda with double-kickstand so very little worry about bike falling over while getting child fastened in. Only couple small negatives. The footrests impede the turning of the front wheel past a certain point. And mounting/dismounting from my bike seat is a little unsteady due to the close proximity of the child seat. Nitpicks I can live with though.
Very good product
We first encountered the Yepp front carrier in the Netherlands, where it was invented. It is universal there, seen on zillions of "omafeits" bikes. The fact that the rider can for all intents embrace the child, and the front / center placement of the center of gravity are outstanding safety features. The only problem is if the baby falls asleep there is no head support but that was an easily solved problem with an inflatable neck pillow, such as is commonly used on airplanes. Our daughter just loves her Yepp and it rides beautifully on my wife's Electra Amsterdam. We installed the auxiliary windshiled too, and highly recommend that too.
Poor description, good product
Like the other reviewer, I bought this seat in hope of putting it on my hardtail mountain bike that's served as my general purpose bike. Doesn't work. There's simply not enough room between the frame and the stem, even if the steering tube was narrow enough (which it isn't). You need to have the threaded style steering tube (like on a hybrid or cruiser kind of bike). If you have any question, look at the picture of the product. If your bike doesn't look like that, it really won't work. This product is from Europe where a lot of people ride these kinds of bikes, but it's just not as common around here. I'm actually in the process of finding a different bike because I really like this seat system. Seems ridiculous to change a bike to fit an accessory, but with a hybrid/city/commuter bike you sit up a bit straighter and more comfortably anyway. I don't think two stars is fair from the first reviewer (the seat itself is excellent quality), but make sure that you have a bike that this will work with.
Great Seat, Poor Compatibility
Product is excellent. Could have been a bit better documented that you'll need the adapter if you have Ahead/Treadless stem, but I'd have easily seen if I'd read the reviews as carefully as I usually do with purchases. Unfortunately, the adapter adds a couple of inches to the setback of the seat and on a Fuji Absolute 3.0 Road Bike, you don't have these inches to spare. My husband has longer arms and flatter chest and he still could just barely accommodate the seat within his reach. Love the seat and will have to forego the mini and go with the larger model mounted on the back of the bike.
Makes all the adults jealous
My son and I put hundreds of miles on the Mini. My wife would drop our son off at daycare with his helmet and the seat, then I'd pick him up after work on my road bike and we'd ride the 3 or so miles home. He loved it - never complaining about getting too hot or being uncomfortable. I liked having him up front so I can easily pass him snacks or a water bottle - plus it's easy to line him up so he can push the walk buttons at stoplights. That being said, this seat really isn't meant to attach to road bikes. Sure, it can, but good luck reaching the hoods and you can forget about the drops. The foot rest extensions will probably limit how much you can turn, so that's another thing to watch out for. After a year on the road bike, we set up a dedicated dad bike (Mini up front, Maxi in back) with flat bars and more upright geometry so now I can haul the 1 and 3 year old more comfortably.
Bummed
. I have a small baby and really want to take her with me. We have a trailer but it's really heavy and I just don't need the gear. I thought a front seat would be a great option. We bought the adapter, it all went together easily. I got on the bike and found I couldn't lean forward and reach the handlebars around the seat. It digs into my chest and I'd need to pedal with my knees out a bit so They don't hit. The angle of the seat is great for the child, but takes up all the space from the handlebars back to the front of the saddle. If there was an adjustment to tilt it more upright I don't think it would move enough for me to be comfortable. I guess I may have a frame that's just too small. Super bummed. I really wanted this seat to work.
Great seat but a tight fit
I like this seat but my son LOVES it. He loves facing forward and getting to see everything. I don't believe this seat would likely be good for short people as they may have some difficulty seeing safely around them. However, I'm 5'10" and have no problems. It takes a little getting used to because the seat is basically against your chest and you can't step off the bike over the middle cross bar. But after a few rides I couldn't imagine not having my son right there with me enjoying the ride just as much as I am. Seat seems very comfortable and well built, solid parts and construction. I got the orange seat and an orange helmet and my wife giggles at me. But it's only because we look so cool riding down the street together. You'll love it.
Awesome!
Bought this because friends of ours have one and love it. I'd been waiting until my daughter was the right weight, because she is small for her age. She loves it, she's about 1.5 years. I was concerned about the safety of the front seat, but felt a trailor was too burdensome. I bought it thinking "If it feels too unsafe, I'm going to take it back." The setup was simple on my Trek 4500, I removed the spacers on the Yepp adapter, and the tube spacers on the Trek. Fits perfectly. After the first ride we were both hooked, although getting used to the helmet was a little issue for her. We can go considerable distances around chicago, and its a ton of fun. I feel very safe, BUT I am hesitant to take it out on busy days because the biggest risk is other people hitting you, and if we were to fall, it would be a pretty long way down. Needless to say, I use every precaution when riding around town.
