Comments about REI Rauk Jacket - Men's:
I bought this as i was in need of a hooded midlayer for a late october adirondack mountain climb. i had my heart set on an outdoor products hooded fleece but decided on this last minute. One of the best purchases yet as for as layers go. The weather was 35F and all i was wearing was this and a base layer.

Comments about REI Rauk Jacket - Men's:
I just bought this at an REI Garage Sale, so I scored BIG TIME. I had just looked at this exact jacket twenty minutes before I found this one in the sale, so I was extraordinarily lucky.
I bought it as a climbing jacket, something I could wear at the crag and even climb in. I haven't done much climbing in it, but I can say a few things now:
1) It's very comfortable. I rode my bike a few miles at a moderate pace (not breathing too hard) on a slightly chilly day (about 55F) and found it to be a nice weight and I didn't get too hot.
2) It protects from wind very well. I was surprised by this, but while sitting at the crag yesterday in a decent breeze, I didn't feel it at all on my arms or chest or back. And I didn't notice the wind while riding my bike either. Very good stuff.
3) The hood is awesome. As I said, I haven't climbed in it yet, but the hood does fit perfectly around my head and neck, snug enough to get my helmet on nicely while still allowing for mobility. It's so well made.
I can't see any cons to it. Very nice product.

Comments about REI Rauk Jacket - Men's:
Fit: I'm 5'9" and 180lbs, so I'm a little on the stockier side. The Medium fit me perfectly. This also has to be my favorite hood design EVER. Arc'Teryx has nothing on this hood. The hood fits like a glove and does not need cinch strap (it doesn't have one) to fit your head and stay on.
What I like: It's lightweight, so you barely know when it's on. This is a fleece replacement, and it is as warm as a fleece with better water resistance (I was in a mild drizzle for an hour with dampness on top layer after done, but none underneath), and way better wind resistance. At 45F outside while driving down the road with the top off and all the windows down in a convertible I noticed that my chest and arms were a bit chilly with just a tee as a base layer. I am not cold-natured. This jacket is durable, the jacket feels like you can rub it on rocks all day and it will look the same afterwards - and it will. Get it in the charcoal grey color for best looks even when you've gotten it a little dirty.
What I didn't like: I'm a warm-natured person and I would find that my arms/chest would be slightly chilly so I'd want the jacket on, but my pits would be sweating. It's breathable in all the right places except the pits, where the fabric seems to double up (it doesn't really, but if I was blind I'd say it did based off of the heat there). If you're cold natured this might be a good thing. The zipper can also irritate your neck/chin a little when zipped up all the way if you're inclined to those kinds of things. I have a beard so only noticed it upon shaving one day.
Bottom Line: This is a great jacket at a great price. If you need a fleece replacement for the right reasons (mild wind resistance, mild water resistance) that is king of durability, get this.
I, however, ended up returning this to go with an Arc'Teryx Atom LT Hoodie as it has breathable fabric at the pits/sides. I'll miss the durability of the Rauk, though.
Side note: This was my sole jacket needed for casual activities in Atlanta, GA in early-mid fall. I did not use it for aerobic activities.

Comments about REI Rauk Jacket - Men's:
I needed a nice technical windbreaker/hoodie while on a work related trip in Boise to wear while walking around. The Rauk fit the bill. It is comfortable, keeps me warm yet is breathable, and keeps the wind out. It's not waterproof but it seems to have a a water resistant coating on it as it was shedding light rain and snow for a little while. It has a stylish look, a small phone pocket on the upper left sleeve. The fit is comfortable, and the lower chest pockets have a thinsulate material to keep your hands warm.

Got this on sale and what a great jacket! Great fit, feel, breathable, comfortable, and most important its practical.
Used as a mid layer for skiing and casually around on cold day. Only complaint is the cuff thumb holes. They aren't very useful and can get in the way but not enough to be troublesome. Looking forward to using it camping, hiking, biking and everywhere I go.

Comments about REI Rauk Jacket - Men's:
This is exactly what I was looking for, It's perfect for bicycling in chilly weather, both the thumbholes and scuba hood are great at not letting wind in. Wear it with an Airflyte hoodie under it and it's a great duo for even colder temperatures. I can't understand why more people haven't posted about this, not to mention it's on super sale! I'm getting another for when the one I have is worn to rags! (which won't be for a long while, great construction)

Comments about REI Rauk Jacket - Men's:
A few weeks back I was poking around my local REI, looking at some new base-layer options. I had kinda-sorta settled on the REI Airflyte Hoodie - but I wasn't thrilled about the pullover part of it.
As I was walking down the aisle, the REI Rauk caught my eye - and boy, am I happy it did. Yes, it costs twice as much as the Airflyte, but I was happy to splurge because this is literally the exact item I was looking for, but didn't know about.
I love that it's a mid-weight, so you can layer it, or wear it solo on milder days - and the windproof nature of it is awesome. The full zipper was just what I wanted, and the hood is snug all by itself - no need for drawstrings. My favorite features, and one you don't see enough in my opinion, are the thumb-holes. There should be thumb-holes on EVERYTHING that you could conceivably layer. It stops the sleeves from bunching up when you put something over it, and keeps your palms warm.
All in all, this jacket/hoodie is perfect.

Comments about REI Rauk Jacket - Men's:
I bought this Rauk Jacket just recently, and it has been amazing so far.
For it's warmth, it is very light. The outside lining is smooth, so you can layer it under shells really easily.
I wore it in 45~ degree weather with just a t-shirt and it kept me comfortable. With a base layer and/or mid-weight undershirt, I'm pretty sure you can take this into sub 40~ temps and still be warm.
I am Five Foot Ten, 185 Lbs with a muscular build, and a large fits me just EXACTLY. Medium is too tight, the XL is way too big. Careful on the sizing. I recommend going into a store to try the jacket on for the most accurate choice.
