Solid But Not As Versatile As Advertised
Body designed to hug a round bike frame and not a wide MTB frame. Especially if mounting points (lugs) are not flush. I shaved the back of the cage frame flat and that allowed it to mount snugly. Does not come with necessary 20mm screws for mounting. Expands easily, but only from 63-74mm. Barely accomodates a large cycling water bottle. Cage is very stiff, making a verticle bottle extraction a challange and a lateral bottle extraction impossible. Plastic body is very hard and will scratch any bottle. Cage may outlast my water bottles. Recommend it, but only after careful consideration.
functions as described
It fits my standard size and larger biking water bottles as well as the standard camelback better bottle (now called eddy) and larger 24oz camelback better bottle (eddy bottles). It can be a little tricky to release larger biking water bottles, but not the camelback better bottles which release easily. I'm glad they added the corner protectors because I had the old model which scratched the heck out of my other water bottles. I'd buy it again.
will ruin your stainless steel bottle!
I don't like plastic bottles. I brought my stainless steel bottle to the store and bought an extra one; now needed two cages for those. The sales guy recommended this Topeak model because "thanks to the plastic parts the bottles wouldn't get damaged". After only one ride, both bottles got badly scratched!!! The plastic parts seem to sit in the wrong place for protecting my bottles... Some positive things too: I had no difficulty mounting them and they held the bottles well.
Not worth the money
Does not expand any larger than a standard cage. A cheaper plastic cage works just as well.
Flexible water bottle size
I have no complaints about this water bottle holder. So far I've been able to put any small size non bicycle water bottle in it and it fits nice and tight, yet easy to remove on the go. Seems well made and is really easy to adjust the size by the push of a button. Only two sizes, but it covers anything I'll put in it.
One of the best adjustable drink holders!
With water and Gatorade bottles changing on a daily basis, you must have adjustable drink holders, long gone is the day when you can just by the "sports" bottle and have it fit the standard bike drink holder! The price is pretty good and it isn't too heavy either.
The best cage I have ever used
Bought it to do my first mountain bike race, and held the bottle in on some pretty rough terrain.
I'll be returning it, too small
Picture on product package makes it look like you can fit almost anything in it, but you can't. I could only fit my smallest bottle in it, and it was expanded all the way and left scratches on the bottle. Look carefully at the top of it and you'll see a slight curve inwards. This would be fine if it were longer but it hits standard bottles about 3/4 the way up so it never locks in. Keep looking or consider yourself warned.
Mediocre Bottle Holder
Just got this the other day and not impressed with the overall design. Strike 1 The holes for mounting are not adjustable like most cages, you can't move up or down one position only. Strike 2 The cage can only hold regular size bottles even when adjusted all the way out. (Same as a standard aluminum cage) You can try bending or modifying but that's not what the ad says. Poor design. A 32 oz gatorade bottle will not fit in this. Any hard type plastic bigger than a regular bike bottle will not fit ie:nalgene, camelbak You can squeeze store bought squishy water bottles like aqauafina in there. Over time and usage cycles maybe the wire retainer will bend out a little and acommodate slightly larger bottles. I won't try bending for risk of it breaking. Having said all of that it is an ok bottle holder and holds normal bottles snugly, looks ok and bottles are easily removed and placed in the cage.About the same price as an aluminum one so cost isn't to bad. I am going to use it and see how it holds up to gravel and riding in general. If I was able to see it in a store and check it out beforehand I probably would not have bought it. The holder is decent enough to be serviceable but but nothing special in the way of holding large bottles. The Blackburn outpost is hard to beat for that purpose.
Good cage with adjustable arm
I own a variety of sizes in water bottles. The Topeak Modula Cage II adjusts to different sizes and holds them securely.
