      • Tough construction, stainless-steel screws and an anodized alloy shaft help the Sea to Summit bilge pump stand up to outdoor use
      • Each pump moves 14 fl. oz. of water
      • Foam collar keeps pump afloat if accidentally dropped overboard

Sea to Summit has informed us that a small number of Bilge Pumps from the first production run were not manufactured to specifications, possibly causing the plunger to break off of the end of the shaft. This has been corrected on subsequent production after December 2011.

by fromA pump is a pump After I write this i'm sure i'll manage to flip my kayak and need the pump. I haven't had to use it to empty my kayak, but did put it in the water and use it to try it. I bought this one because I found it to be built better and more comfortable to hold. I have a 17' kayak so it's easy for me to throw in my bungees in the front and have for easy access. The only con I can see is that they couldn't just throw in a hose to put on the pump for the evacuation, but then it would probably cost more. Bottom line is a pump is a pump, but this one is just nicer than the other one REI offered.

by fromBroke shortly after purchase This pump broke after just a few uses. The handle came disconnected inside the pump body and there is no way to repair it. Absolute junk.

by fromworked once, then done If nothing else it's consistent. I've had the pump for awhile, but only recently needed it. It worked for 3-4 uses (as we passed it from canoe to canoe) on a recent trip, but the inner'eds failed after a few uses. REI should no longer sell this product unless the manufacturer makes it so you can take it apart to repair. It's garbage after a few uses which seems to be consistent with the other reviews

by fromBroke on third use There are two major problems with this pump: 1. It is several inches shorter than most other pumps I've looked at. On my kayak, the pump is not quite tall enough to clear the top of the coaming, so with every pump, about half of the water ends up right back in the boat. 2. It broke on the third use. While practicing wet exits at a paddling clinic, the handle broke off as I attempted to pump out my kayak. Luckily the instructor had a spare, but I would have been in major trouble if it had happened on a solo paddle. I returned the pump and got a Seattle Sports pump instead. So far I have not had any trouble with that one.

by frombroke during second use This pump worked well the first time. I added about 6 inches of hose to clear the combing on my kayak. It broke the second occassion I used it. The stopper came unglued from the handle. It's inaccessible, stuck inside the chamber. Repairing it is impossible without risking damage.

by fromGreat Pump G'Day - first of all, full disclosure: I'm the Customer Relations Manager for Sea to Summit. We experienced a problem in the first production where certain pumps were not built to specification causing the plunger to break. We notified REI and an advisory was posted in the product description. That notwithstanding, four reviews for this product mention a broken plunger. Since correcting the issue, we have had ZERO breakages. We replaced pumps for all consumers who contacted us (as we would do with any defective Sea to Summit product – in the unlikely event of a problem, just call or email us; we'll take care of you). The Bilge Pump is made of really high quality materials – an ABS plastic chamber, oversized anodized aluminum shaft, and a big 'D' handle which makes a great attachment point. It works smoothly, effectively and reliably. And – it is backed by the best Customer Service in the industry.
