As a person who likes being prepared, I wear this everyday. This jacket breathes well and I overheat and sweat easily, thats saying something. I have worn it on sunny 75 temps down to 50 and felt just fine. Below 50 better start layering. When first bought, it shed even heavy rain well. After washing that quality diminished a bit. Better hand wash it.
It doesn't have a hood (which I like) and the collar stands up or folds down, pretty well.
The zipper works very easily all the way to the top and comes down with one hand. For protection against wind, light/moderate rain,and sun this works well plus it packs pretty small with no wringkles.

Am usually a big fan of REI gear and apparel-- but this one is not up to scratch-- poorly made garment, lots of loose threads, and sloppy stitching. Material started to pile after one wash, and one moderately bushwacky trek produced multiple pulls, abrasions, and wear. Don't think this one would last more than about half a season of hiking. Fit is also very odd-- hugein the body, short in the arms-- not at all flattering. If you want a durable, good looking jacket for outdoor use, look elsewhere.

I use this jacket for spring, fall or summer rainy days. It's great for going to work, driving the car or around the neighborhood (some light hiking). Easy on, easy off with nice features: Zip breast pocket, adjustable sleeves, inside pockets, adequate neck size (with fleece lining), soft non-snagging pockets, good zippers and it looks good hiking, around town, or work. Thanks REI!

I bought this for my son and it is way too big. Also, I was surprized at how thin it is. I have an old REI soft shell and it has been a great jacket for the last 10 years. I was hoping this would be similar but no such luck. It does keep wind and rain off well, though.
