My 3yo son and 8 yo daughter have each had one of these for a couple of years. We do weekly day hikes of about 4-5 miles. The most important thing for happy hiking with this age is comfort. This is a proper daypack with sternum strap and waist strap so that it stays on comfortably no matter how active the kids are. They are well made, durable, and washable. The pack is big enough to hold a water bottle, snack, and light jacket. The kids love that they are carrying their own stuff. I feel better knowing that if part of the group gets separated for whatever reason each person has a share of the essentials. The pack has a whistle that is very loud for emergencies. If the three year old gets tired of his pack, it adjusts enough that I can wear it either on front or back. I wouldn't want it any larger because I don't want to overload the kids.

I bought this for my 5 year old son to use for hiking/backpacking with him pops. It has enough room for a lot of his stuff, is comfortable and most importantly it made him feel like a big boy. He loves his little backpack. We are not rough on our gear, but after a couple trips its still holding up just fine and I expect it will continue to.

Bought this for my daughter. well built, very sturdy. Unfortunately just a bit too small to fit a standard folder. Fix that and you'll have a perfect bag for young school kids.

I purchased this for my 4 yr son to take on the plane for an upcoming trip. The backpack is very nice quality and the length is fine for him (he is 40" tall). If only the backpack were a couple inches wider, it would be perfect. As it is, I can not fit a full size folder or drawing pad in it which limits its usefulness. Overall a very nice backpack at a very reasonable price.

I got this pack for my 9 yr old Daughter, as she is small framed. This pack was perfect for Day Camp, allowing her to carry her water bottle, first aid kit, towel, and hat with room to spare. The pack is light weight and comfortable for kids to wear. It looks like an adult pack in design, which appealed to her helping out in a Cub Scout Camp. For the money it's a great value and design.
