Comments about Jetboil Sumo Companion Cup - 1.8 Liter:

I have two Jet Boil stoves, the first one I bought six years ago. I purchased the sumo cup, along with the Jet Boil Zip once all of my kids started backpacking with me. The zip fit nicely into the Sumo, but I have never been able to snap the Sumo's lid in place. When boiling/cooking in it, I lay it on top and remove it when pouring. I average 3-4 backpacking trips a year between family and Boy Scouts and on the second or third trip the measuring cup cracked while it was inside my pack. The Flash and Zip's cups are more pliable. They did everything right with the Flash.

It seems Jet Boil decided to do something different with the Sumo and Zip's lids - they made the channel, where the rim of the cup seats, too shallow (unlike the lid for the Flash). The measuring cup for the Zip is probably the best; more pliable than the Flash or Sumo and thus less prone to breaking. I'm scratching my head over these decisions from the engineers/designers at Jet Boil who produced a very good stove, but then concocted the lids for the Sumo and Zip. I'll accept a few more grams in weight for a lid the snaps and stays in place during use.

Still, the Sumo is a good sized cup and along with the Zip, it compacts easily into my pack.

        Service and delivery comments:

As I have come to expect, my REI on line purchases arrived in a timely fashion and though it seemed everything was tossed into a big box with a little packing, nothing was broken or damaged.

Comments about Jetboil Sumo Companion Cup - 1.8 Liter:

I had an original PCS stove but wanted a larger pot. Went on a 5 day backpack trip down south rim of Grand Canyon with 3 other guys. Using the original pot would require boiling two pots of water for two freeze dried food pouches. Using the Sumo pot only needed one pot. The sumo fit great on the existing stove base. Actually fit better than original pot. You will need two hands to handle the pot due to diameter. Only took a few minutes more to boil the larger volume of water. I was always careful with the lid fearful it might pop off during pouring but never did. Brought two 230 GM canisters thinking I would need them but over the 5 day trip making water for oatmeal breakfast, coffee, and freeze dried dinners didn't even use 1/2 of one canister. I liked how the larger canister can nest in the sumo pot with stove. All my buddies refer to me as the R&D guy since I always have the best gear, and the sumo pot just added to my cool gear. Greatly recommend this pot if you need the additional capacity. The thinner lid and bottom only added a few ounces using the sumo over the original pot. I cooked in Temps from 50 to 75 deg F. So can tell how it works below freezing.

Comments about Jetboil Sumo Companion Cup - 1.8 Liter:

This is a great idea. I love the larger size. It works well with the PCS when you are boiling water for multiple people. However, for 1.25 liters of water at 60 degrees with an ambient temperature of 70 degrees and no wind (at 4500 feet), it took almost 9 minutes to boil. There are many stoves and pot combos out there which can beat that time easily but, I like the convenience of having one stove and a couple of pot options now. Bring the Sumo for 3-4 people or just the regular size for 1-2 people. I like that you can fit a 220g canister inside (it will be needed for a longer trip). The system does get quite top heavy when full and without a stabilizer, it will be sketchy. One other thing... IT has a very strong rubbery odor the first few uses. It does smell less now but there is still a faint lingering of weird smell.

I like having this pot for my stove and will keep it and get good use out of it, but if I was buying it for myself, I would go with a different stove/pot setup for larger groups that would be more versatile.
