Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Topaz 5 Tent - Special Buy:
I used this tent to go car camping on the very rainy Oregon Coast. We had to stake the rain fly pretty carefully, but our effort paid off. We also used the footprint specific to this tent. The interior of the tent stayed completely dry through 3 days of typical soaking wet Northwest springtime camping weather.
Also, the fly provides a HUGE vestibule that was idea for peeling off our rainsuits before entering the tent.
One thing of note is that when we woke up in the morning (after a night of very heavy rain) there was quite a bit of water pooled on the rainfly over the vestibule---not over the tent itself.
For a big, heavy, comfy, car-camping tent this stood up to the rain and met our needs.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Topaz 5 Tent - Special Buy:
Good quality materials, well built. The tent has 2 front doors with a divider curtain splitting the left and right halves of the tent. There are a series of vertical storage pockets on the rearmost curtain for either side. There are no vents or door on the rear side. For the tent, the light color is a medium sage green, darker than what is shown in the photo, and chocolate. The fly is medium sage and chocolate. Its weakness is the dark colored fly, as the top is chocolate brown, making it very hot in the sun - color is nothing like that shown online. It is easy to set up, but will require a lot of stakes to pull the fly taunt so that air can flow between the tent and fly, though I do feel it will provide VG rain protection. With the sale, additional 20% off [...] the price was very good, but I am concerned about how hot it might be with the dark fly installed, thus 3 stars rather than 4.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Topaz 5 Tent - Special Buy:
I don't think this is the most attractive tent design or colors but functionally, it works well.
My husband was excited to get a tent that had a little more head room! It's a 6-person tent but for us, it essentially will fit two queen sized air mattresses or an air mattress plus a couple of dogs & gear. There is a center wall with a zipper down the center in case you want to keep things separate (like the dogs from crawling in bed with us!) There are storage pockets on the center wall which was rather convenient.
One of the main reasons I chose this tent other than the center height was b/c it has a full rain fly. We had two nights of pretty significant rainfall and we stayed dry. We did have one corner where the rain puddled underneath the tent but since we were on an air mattress, we didn't get wet. Most other tent campers near us were flooded. I also really like that the vestibule is large enough to stand under and remove your rain jacket and boots.
The only issue we really had was that the instructions don't accurately reflect how to put the tent together. If you look at the picture, the poles obviously cross but according the instructions they don't. After setting it up once though, it only took 2 of us about 10 minutes to put it up.
