Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Chaos 2 Floor Saver Tent Footprint - Special Buy:
The footprint is lightweight and packs small and will be helpful to protect the tent floor from rocks, mud, etc.
However, it is actually a bit too large to correctly and tightly connect to the grommets of the tent poles when used with the full tent and rain-fly setup. If you put the tent pole ends through the grommets in the straps for the tent corners, then also through the grommets in the straps at the footprint corners, then the footprint is too large to draw tight and stay on. The footprint can be staked out but that somewhat defeats the purpose - not only does it mean you have to bring the stakes (not always necessary otherwise), but also the footprint extends a little bit beyond the floor of the tent, inviting rain to come in between the footprint and the tent bottom.
On the upside, it does appear that the footprint can be used with the rain fly for a fast-pitch setup (i.e. without the main tent body, just a floor and a rain-fly with the poles). I didn't anticipate that, so that's a nice surprise. Not sure I'll ever use this tent that way, though...
