Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Mystique 2.0 Tent - Special Buy:
i've used this tent for two seasons now and for the price you can't beat it, especially if you get it during one of the outlet sales. it has performed admirably in wind, rain, snow, hail, and sun. its comparable in size to most 2 man backpacking tents and lighter than a lot of others, especially if you split the load with a partner. it will keep you dry and comfortable in just about any weather. and the mesh walls allow condensation to collect on the fly, which doesnt touch the tent itself so that it drains away from the inside. and honestly ive yet to have much condensation anyway, even in rain. the vestibules are big enough for a pack, boots, and maybe a little more. if you stake out each tip of the vestibule wing before you clip and tighten the fly down you can stretch out a little extra room. and the footprint is usually available on here as well for cheap. my only cons are somewhat obvious before you buy: it isnt free standing, and it narrows at the foot causing some overlap if you use two wide sleeping pads. overall the size is average for a backpacking tent and its light enough to use solo if you want extra room. this is a pretty solid bang for the buck. inexperienced buyers should be aware that this is in fact a backpacking tent, so weight vs. size is the main concern. and since its not freestanding, it will NOT stand up without staking it down. ive read too many reviews of people complaining about the size of 2 man backpacking tents. know what youre buying before you buy it.

Bought this at a bargain price - was leery about it not being freestanding. Turns out to be a great tent for the price. We also use a "Big name" 2 person backpacking tent that is freestanding, but this ALPS tent is our favorite. Roomy for a 2 person tent, access from either side, set up not too difficult once you practice one or two times, we each have our own rainfly. Love it for several night backpacking trips or quick jaunts to a campground.

The tent does not fit two people well but if you like to cuddle then you're in for a treat. I'm 5'3 and my husband is 5'9 and we took up all of the space in this tent. Used it once on the beach and it collected condensation under the rain fly - not enough to get us wet though.

I own the 2 man and the 1.5 models. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because I have seen tents with tighter rainflys. Of course they cost a lot more...
I have read a LOT of tent reviews on backpacking tents and it seems as though many "newbies" don't realize that BP tents are designed tight.
I've used this tent on many trips and have not had any problems. I did ruined the rainfly, in a rush trying to wash and dry it. DUMBBB. I knew better but... anyway, I ordered a replacement fly from ALPS, and was priced very well and it came quickly.
So, all in all I am very pleased with this tent and the maker.

I have used this tent several times. The first time me and my 7yo son set it up rain was coming. We were able to get it set up in 10 minutes( and most of that was me showing my son how to do it) and then while it was raining we were able to get in and out putting all our stuff inside. I have had trouble with my son getting the zippers stuck and leaving the doors jammed and letting in bugs and water. He has had no trouble with closing the tent. That night it stormed pretty good. Wind and rain for several hours. No leaks or any problems. We had plenty of room( I am 6'1" 250 and he is maybe 4'5" 60) we had pillows and he had toys. We had food and nalgene bottles and still had plenty of room. Then in the morning we packed it up and out in no time. The only complaint I may have was not enough height. I was able to sit up in the tent but only in the back. The 3 storage pockets worked great( one for him, one for me and one for lights and such up top. I am not yet a thru hiker or someone trying to sleep under a napkin in the woods. I was looking for an inexpencive tent that could do as writen. This tent packs really small and can easily be split across 2 packs, but even with me carrying the bulk of things its perfect.

The tent floor pan was not seam sealed but the rain fly was. I don't believe either was waterproofed but $12 later and a little time its made it through two heavy rain storms with never a leak. It's well made and has made it through several backpacking trips without a rip, tear or busted seam. It may not be the lightest, nor come waterproofed but for the money isn't an excellent value.
