Comments about Ruffwear Ruff Wear Bark'n Boots Grip Trex Dog Boots:
Yes, they STAY ON! Now that I have answered the most important question, allow me to share some more information about these amazing boots. Ruff Wear definitely got the name right, Grip Trex. These boots grip alright. Out here in the Southwest there are big boulders, steep cliffs and some of the most rugged terrain around. Protecting my dogs paws is paramount. These really allow my boxer Chunk to go the distance. Today while on a hike, Chunk got a little too close to a steep ledge that led straight to a pool of ice cold water. While slipping and losing his balance, these boots allowed him to regain control and head out of what seemed like a unfortunate dunk in ice cold water. Not only do these boots go on easy, but they are easy to tighten and readjust if need be. Don't forget to secure the boots after about 10 minutes of wear. I like to put them on, then readjust them if needed when we get to our destination. I do have my boxer wear socks as they protect his carpel pads and give him extra comfort. Socks also help the boots stay in position. I have absolutely no complaints regarding these boots!

Matisse wore these on the Oregon coast, running on the sand for hours. Also, just wore them on the hike up to Snow lake, which is a very rocky trail. They worked great and protected his paws perfectly.
He was very popular, and got lot's of attention because of his "doggy hiking boots"!
They don't slip, fall off, or cause any hot spots or rubbing, as long as they are worn with the socks. They did slip off without the socks.
They even stayed on while/after playing in the water.
He prances around on hot rocks at first, but after a few minutes he seems oblivious of them.
We bought the largest size socks, and fold them over the top of the boots to help keep the velcro closed and the socks from slipping down inside the boots.
They are slippery on snow, and he did some downhill "skiing", but after got the feel of it he did fine as long as he stayed on the trail of footprints in the snow. They were fine on snow on level ground.
They also affected his traction, so he slipped a few times while climbing up rock piles, but again, he improved as he got used to the feel of it.
For a city dog with "soft feet", as well as skin allergies, these are the perfect thing for weekend adventures.

I have a yellow labrador, and he loves these boots. We frequently go on float trips, and the river bed/banks are sharp rock and gravel. He realized right away that the boots would keep his feet from hurting, and he started sprinting up and down the bank. On our trip this weekend one of the boots came off. He immediately stopped and started barking. We put the boot back on and he was happy again. He even swims swims in these boots.
I give the boots 5 stars, and so does my dog.

Before I begin, I have a German Shepherd that does competitive obedience trials. The product is well made and is easily cleaned in the washing machine. Rough Wear as a company has great customer service and will take exchanges directly.
It takes a while for the dog to get used to the boots, but onces they "get it", there are no problems after. However, Rough Wear brand socks do not actually work well with the boots. Using the boots alone, fit the dogs paws well and do not slip of fall off, but once you add socks the boots may slip off sometimes. I'm still not sure how to get the boots to stay on while using the Rough Wear brand socks. Also heavy rain and caked on mud will also cause the boots to slip off (yes I know, you ask, why is your dog out in heavy rain), socks don't make any difference here either, the boots will still come off if heavily soiled. The socks bunch up inside the boot over time as the dog walks, eventually leading to the whole thing coming loose.
Overall it seems to me as long as the boots are bone dry and socks are not used, they will stay on and fit as advertised. I would rate it 3 and a HALF stars, but you can't. I don't think there is a better product on the market right now. Its basically Rough Wear or nothing. I hope someone invents something better in the next 10 years.

I have been Hiking/climbing Horsetail falls too Pyramid Peak all summer long with my dog Abagail. So i wanted to potect her Paws, anyone that hikes there knows how harsh the granite can be. So I measured her paws, used the dog foot chart that is on the box the boots come in. It was a great fit for only her back paws. The front boots are too long, she keep triping on the toe. They make all the boots the same way, they should make a differnt style boot for the front paws. Abagail did make it with the help of the boots on her back paws to the summit! Maybe with more practice she will master the front boots!

Comments about Ruffwear Ruff Wear Bark'n Boots Grip Trex Dog Boots:
The front boots fit well and stayed put, but the back boots had a tendency to twist upside down so that my dog was walking on the nylon fabric instead of the sole of the shoe. No matter what I tried, the boots would twist around in a matter of minutes. Also, my dog still has his front dew claws and they would be bloody and swollen after a backyard game of fetch (in the gravel) with these boots on. (We're saving up for the surgery to remove the dew claws).
Sadly I had to return the boots. Still looking for a boot that works because it's much needed here in the Arizona desert.

I have a 62 lb golden, and she is a large dog by definition, but based on the size chart, I went with medium boots...and still too big for her back paws. Ruff wear should make different sizes for front and back paws. So I have boots that fit her front feet great, and are too big for her back feet, and these dang things are always turning around backwards on her feet. What I really need to do is buy one medium set for her front, and one small set for her back. A 'small' set for a 62 lb dog???? Maybe Ruff wear should think about redefining what a 'small' is.

Comments about Ruffwear Ruff Wear Bark'n Boots Grip Trex Dog Boots:
I bought these boots because while thru-hiking the AT with my dog, she began having trouble with her toenails on the granite rock in Maine. The original set of (4) boots I bought wound up being too large for her two back feet and they never stayed on, so I bought a second set of boots that were sized right for her paws, but the only times they would stay on were when the boots were completely dry. If my dog walked through a stream and the boots got wet, they would be tossed into the bushes ten yards afterwards. I trained my dog on using the boots, and she didn't try to chew them off. They simply wouldn't stay put. I tried everything to get these boots to stay on, including using them in conjunction with baby sock, VetRap, and Gorilla tape, individually. With Vibram soles, they do seem very durable, but if they are only good for a flat, dry surface, a dog shouldn't need boots. The design is just poor on these [$]/set boots. Perhaps they need a pad length measurement as well as a pad width measurement to accurately fit the boots. I plan on selling mine on [@].

We have a rescued Greyhound that seems to have delicate feet. Within the first year of having him (we live in a city with pavement everywhere) he has successfully stepped on 3 things (including tiny pebbles) which have all punctured his paw pads. This resulted in 2 surgeries to remove the embedded rocks. Surgery sites have now calloused over into painful corns. Our dog now wears boots anytime he is outside to protect his feet from future wounds and to provide additional padding.
We LOVE these boots. We have successfully worn through our first pair in about 6 months of walking on pavement, and just purchased our second pair. Our top two criteria are 1) must stay on and 2) they must be easy on and easy off since we put them on for every single walk, multiple times a day.
These boots do rub when new, like any pair of new shoes. Once broken in, we have no problems with sores, even on our Greyhound who has thin hair and delicate skin. We almost never use the socks, only if we are going on a long hiking trip. It becomes a bit excessive to put on a coat, 4 socks, and 4 boots for our daily walks. The boots have 1 velcro strap that, when tight, seems to do the trick and keep the boots on.
The only down side we noticed is that our well worn first pair started to smell, especially when they got wet. We did wear through the rubber sole, so perhaps we exposed something, because the new pair is fine.
We have not tried these in the winter/snow yet, but are confident it will hold up. We have tried multiple other styles, and this is our go to dog boot!

Comments about Ruffwear Ruff Wear Bark'n Boots Grip Trex Dog Boots:
It should be noted that the box says "all-season wear." These are not all-season wear. They're not waterproof, which yes I probably should have surmised, but I was counting on the box to tell the truth. When we took our pup to the snow, these were great for about the first 45 minutes-- and then she let us know that they were uncomfortable. Upon further inspection, we realized that snow had gotten in the boots and refroze inside the boot.
For non-snow use, they were great. They stay on pretty well because the velcro strap really holds tight. She doesn't really need boots for hiking on dirt, so we returned them.
