Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I originally purchased the Black Diamond Trail Shock poles, but I returned them after deciding I did not want the shock feature. Picked these poles up and couldn't be happier! Here's why:
-easy to adjust without taking your hands out of straps
-cork grips are comfortable and absorbent, and they left me blister free
-very strong; I relied heavily on them while traversing very rocky terrain with no issues
-tungsten carbide tips grip great, even on slippery rocks
All of the features I need, nothing I don't. Buy these and enjoy!

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I use these poles mostly for trail hiking, and some off-trail. I haven't tried them snowshoeing yet. They're comfortable, light, and the locking mechanism is terrific, easy to change, easily locks in place and stays put. My old pair had the screw-in lock system, and this snap-in system is so much better, easier to use, faster, and the locking mechanism just doesn't fail. Buy some!

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
Have been using those poles for a while now and they are just great. Unbelievably durable and strong, especially the locking mechanism holds up better than everything else out there I've tried before and I used lots of different poles in the past, due to knee problems.
To say it short: Great poles for great price

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I'm a 59 year old with osteoarthritis in one knee who enjoys day hikes. These were gifted to me in anticipation of an upcoming long day hike (26 miles). I'm looking forward to the additional stability for downhill portions but am also a bit leery of eventually depending on them too much over my own stability and balance. Time will tell.
To Ja mountain man's comment about the "big flaw" of the lower portion not locking when collapsed; this is easily remedied by adjusting the screw in the lock mechanism. Just tighten enough to lock on the black ferrule and there is no problem at all with slippage of the lower portion.

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
Never thought I'd ever use poles but finding myself not as sure-footed on the downhill as I used to be gave me the incentive. A bit awkward starting out but after a while there were times were I thought "Yeah, these things really work!"
When you become unaware of using them, that's when you realize how they add to your hiking. Yes, I do find myself resting on them while taking a break instead of sitting down. Cork is nice, comfortable straps and I see no need to look any further.

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
Just bought these poles and took them on a 10 mile hike in the Central Cascades today. These are my first trekking poles and I love them! They worked perfectly and were a great value. My husband purchased the REI Relief Shocklight Trekking poles for slightly more and will be exchanging for the Traverse Powerlocks. He had issues with both the shock lockout mechanism and the twisting lock mechanism. His poles collapsed on him more than once, whereas mine worked perfectly. They might be slightly heavy for backpackers, but worked well for a single day hike. I would recommend these to any day hikers in the market for trekking poles.

The day after I got these poles, I used them hiking in a driving rain in the white mtns. of NH.
They took a beating, and were proven to be dependable.

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I've used these poles for about a year now an I absolutely love them. Most of the people I hike with use twist lock poles and they're always collapsing on them; not once have these collapsed on me. They're very durable as well. I've used them descending a few very rocky areas and gotten them stuck between rocks, roots, etc. without them breaking. They show some signs of abuse (scratches on the lowest section) but they seem cosmetic only. I also purchased the REI snow baskets and have been using them for snowshoeing this season. Very versatile, dependable, pole for a decent price.

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
After having problems maintaining adjustments on my Leki poles I bought my REI poles. Love the external adjustment - so easy. Cork handles are great. Couldn't be happier with these poles and like them far better than the Lekis.
