Comments about Lowa Renegade LL Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
Wow. I am blown away by these boots. I am a female teenager who has been searching high and low for a perfect-fitting pair of hiking boots for a while now. I have weird feet - narrow heel, large forefoot (bunions), and overpronation to boot (pun intended).
At the last minute, I decided to go on a long day hiking trip this weekend, and I had no boots to wear. I went to REI the morning of the trip and bought this pair of boots in a Men's US size 9.5 (the women's Lowas were too small for me, as I can wear anywhere from an 11-11.5 in women's shoes but the women's Lowas didn't run that high). I was a bit worried about wearing new boots on a long hike but they seemed to fit well so I decided to go for it.
Today, I hiked 10 miles with an elevation gain of 8,000 feet in these boots, with absolutely no problems! There was no break-in period, and I got no blisters. The boots were really comfortable and supported me well, even with such a strangely-shaped foot as mine. They seem to overcorrect for my overpronation. They are technically only water-resistant (vs. waterproof), but they handled snow pretty well. I'm glad I got the water-resistant version of these boots rather than the ones with Goretex because the ventilation helped me out.
I could not have gone on the hiking trip without these boots! I am so happy to have finally found a pair of boots that fit me.

This boot has nicely conforms my individual foot configuration naturally as each foot has slight different width particulars. Surprisedly the soft leather has the ability to conform nicely without too much break in effort. Thanks to the Lowa Mfgr. :)

Comments about Lowa Renegade LL Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
Wonderful boot for summer hiking in the Sierra! Roomy toe box with plenty of wiggle room, secure fit across the instep and good hold down on the heel with ankle support. Light weight, no Gore-Tex and glove leather lining make for very comfortable warm weather footwear.
Takes a little breaking in, and I typically take a 12 in Vans, etc. but the 13 fit better here and no toe bang on the descents is the result!
You can really tell the difference in these well-made, european made boots!

Comments about Lowa Renegade LL Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I was having ankle issues related to an old knee injury. Bought these for all around use outside of work and I liked them so much I ended up wearing them all the time. I just bought a second pair so I can change them out at the end of the work day. The leather lining is great - no GTX means my feet don't sweat and I get that great ankle support all day long even when I sit.

Comments about Lowa Renegade LL Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I tried on the Lowa Renegade II GTX in the store and it was the most comfortable boot I found at the time. Still it had its problems, specifically that my heels rubbed and I knew it would lead to blisters. The Lowa Renegade LL supposedly has the same boot shape, but was not available in store within 800 miles. So I bought them online thinking the softer leather lining would alleviate the blister issue and would therefore be the perfect boot. I purchased size 10, even though I typically wear size 9.5, because in boots I expect to need a little more volume. I was willing to forgoe the waterproof lining in exchange for amazing comfort. Besides, I haven't had waterproof boots in the 13 years I've been backpacking.
A few days later the first thing I noticed when I slipped on the boots was how cramped my feet felt. According to the foot scale my feet are C width, which I assume is about average. I found online a method for stretching the boots without damaging them, causing wear, or using chemicals. After doing so there was sufficient room, and though I would have liked even more, it was enough to proceed with the break-in process.
That night I went for a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood, and it was clear to me that I was going to need insoles. I have high arches and, though I'm sure the stock insoles are quite good for an average foot, they didn't do it for me. At my soonest opportunity I went to REI and bought some blue SOLE insoles. They are pretty high volume, but they support my feet fairly well.
I felt confident I could take a longer walk with the new insoles, so that night I did. About a mile in it was clear I was developing blisters on my heels, just where I would have with the Renegade II GTX's in the store. Now I was wearing normally cheapo brand cotton socks, not properly-fitting hiking socks, so I chalked it up to that. At my next opportunity, I went to REI to buy some proper medium-weight socks and liners. And after stuffing my fat foot, wrapped in medium-weight socks into the boot with fairly voluminous insoles, I was back to square one: the boot didn't have enough volume and I was getting foot cramps.
I believe that I did everything I could do within reason to get me to feel somewhat comfortable with the boot. I think anything else would push me past the point of no return (or refund or exchange). So I did return them slightly used (100% satisfaction guarantee for the win!). I once again tried the Renegade II GTX's this time using my new insoles and new socks and the boot felt absolutely wonderful in every way...except the heels! Apparently the Renegade design simply does not work with my feet, even with lots of soft and cushiness in between.
Anyway, for those considering buying these, I just want to let you know that I personally had fit issues with these boots, and that's why I returned them, and that's why I gave them only 2 stars. Besides the fit, I did like the softness of the leather linings, the tread, and the support the boots provided. Be sure to try these on in person and keep the receipt so you can return them. If you have feet that are larger or wider than your size indicates, keep looking!

i bought these because they were on sale, the leather lining, and they do not have goretex. i hate gtx in my boots because they make my feet sweat really bad and the leather starts to rot. these feel a world of difference better. gtx is great for my coat but not boots. anyway, i will be a lowa customer so long as they keep making it leather lined [i love it] and goretex free. also, the prob. with fabric linings is they ALWAYS fall apart and wear thru to the leather shell but leather lining is soft, strong and 100% better.

Love these boots. I've owned many pairs of boots over the years but none of them fit my foot as comfortably as these.

Extremely comfortable with almost no breakin required. I'm wearing them daily and my feet feel better than any other boot I've worn (Zamberlain, Aslo, REI). The leather interior is awesome.

Comments about Lowa Renegade LL Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
A long-time wearer of low-top hiking shoes, I had been looking for months now for the "perfect" mid hiking boot that would provide added ankle support where the low-tops lack; and these LOWA's exceed all expectations. Add in a pair of Orange Superfeet, they are the most comfortable, well-fitting shoes I have ever laced up. I am a day-hiker...actually I'm a glutton for punishment. I try and look for the longest and hardest dayhikes out there. They are incredibly well styled, but more importantly they perform superbly on the trail. They are the perfect balance of a sturdy hiking boot and a lightweight dayhiking shoe. Having tried on the Renegade GTX with the cloth lining, there is no comparison. The soft and supple leather lining of the LL is form-fitting to your ankle and feels great, especially over long distances. While this may not be best suited for long backpacking trips or mountaineering trips, this is a top choice for long dayhikes over rugged terrain or a weekend overnighter in the wilderness. At this time I can find no complaints or downside.
