My bladder started leaking the very first time! At first I thought it was just residual water on the outside, but this past weekend, I purposefully wiped down the reservoir before I put it in my bag and sure enough when I arrived at the trail head and threw my pack on, my shirt was wet within seconds.

Very disappointed in this major design flaw. At first I thought it was merely a fluke, but after reading reviews, I know I'm not alone in this issue. And it's a serious bummer that it appears that Camelbak is not doing anything to offer a new style of reservoir that won't leak! I hope they fix it soon, so I can stop hiking with a wet shirt from minute 1!!!

Bought this in Montana for a snowshoe/hiking adventures along with a really nice REI pack. They both came in handy and were compact and easy to travel back to NH with in the carry on.

Been using Camelbaks forever. Bought this one a few months ago despite reading negative comments about the 'leaky' issues. I have had no problems with this and in fact, I ordered a 70oz version shortly after.

First I want to say this was for an excellent deal I got at an REI used gear sale. It was rated for the 100 oz so that is what I got. Plenty of water for those crazy mountain bike rides where you need to keep hydrated. And I plan on doing more this summer.

I bought this reservoir to use in my Osprey 55 and Flash 22 packs. Product works exactly how it should. The only small improvements I would make:

1) The clip on the top that secures the reservoir from slipping down in your pack is a bit tight and difficult to hook/unhook, so it takes a bit of work to get the reservoir detached/out of the pack.

2) It would be awesome if the reservoir had some kind of attached, retractable hook on the bottom for easy up-side-down drying. CamelBak sell a separate cleaning/drying kit with this kind of set up.

Side note: I debating between this reservoir (3L) and the 2L size. I went with this one. Always better to have the option for more water than not enough.

As a user of the old style, tried and true Camelbak bladder (15+ years), I was saddened when I needed another bladder and saw the redesign.

Old style bladder has been practically bullet proof, no leaks, and still going strong.

Not so much for the new design.

My two cents.

Pro: The new design incorporates two small "arms" to help drying the interior. Nice addition, but not necessary. You can use a (coated) wire hanger, and placed into the bladder to hold it open. Hang upside down and voila. It is nice to have the built in drying arms tho. I never had mold in the "old and unimproved" model using this technique.

There is a new handle around filling port to help fill the bladder. Nice, but not exceptional. Per Camelbak customer service, the bladder needs to be filled lying down to achieve the full 100 oz capacity. Capacity also includes hose volume. I could not quite squeeze in the 100 ounces, but close. It is a bit awkward to fill the bladder on the trail.

The hose is quick disconnect type, so expanding, adding accessories, etc is an option. I am only concerned that this may be another point that may start leaking, so I am wary of this item.

New plastic is BPA free. A plus if you are concerned about this.

The cons.

Plastic bladder is a bit stiff, especially the hose. The plastic may soften over time, so this may be picking nits.

No method to directly fill bladder from a pump (Nalgene type threaded fill port, etc). Again, maybe I am too picky.

The real con. This design is prone to leaking. REI and Camelbak are aware of this. The leaks occur around the "eighth turn" fill port. It took me a while to figure out it was a leak, not just excess water.

If you can find the older style fill port, buy that bladder.

The new design seems to have flaws, with many reporting leaks. Obviously not every bladder will leak. Your mileage may vary.

No leaks in mine. I liked it so much I bought another. I always thought their bladders were the best and this one really is better. Meaningful improvements include the lighter weight of the new handle, the way the handle slides into a pocket instead of having to hang the bag from a hook, the 1/4 turn seal on the access port closes easily and effectively, the baffle helps it hold its shape, the twist valve (hydrolock?) now has a detent to keep it in place better, and the detachable hose makes it easier to dry out.
