Comments about REI Camp Bed 3.5 Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad - Large - 2007 Closeout:
Its a big, thick pad. I wasn't really aware of how big it is to pack. Even for my motorcycle its too much to carry. It would be great in a Suburban.

Comments about REI Camp Bed 3.5 Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad - Large - 2007 Closeout:
I got this pad for my wife after getting and being completely satisfied with the current model of the 3.5 Campbed. I gather that this is the previous generation of that product and wondered if there was a significant difference other than its 2/3 of the price.
If I hadn't experienced the current generation Campbed I know that I would be very happy with this product. Compared to backpacking pads it's a new day. Thicker, more comfortable, softer. Better in every way. If your looking to upgrade on the cheap its an excellent choice. You will wake up more relaxed, no pain points from rocks or other annoyances. It doubles as a passable guest bed and if your going to find yourself staying over somewhere it's probably better than the couch.
That said the current generation campbed is better. This generation still has a little bit of an air mattress feel the current campbed does not (just a little). The foam is not as thick or supporting (but it still supports well) and the top isn't as velvety. But it's about 90% of the comfort at less than 60% of the price. If you're on a budget or just don't think you'll be using it very often then this pad is the way to go. But if you want as much comfort as you can get and don't mind paying more for it then get the current model.

Comments about REI Camp Bed 3.5 Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad - Large - 2007 Closeout:
When I opened up the icluded storage bag and removed it, I never thought it would inflate to the advertised 3.5", maybe 1.5 by the looks of it. Given a half hour or so, it inflated to a reasonable level and I got impatient and used a powered blower to completely fill up. Easily 3.5" Plenty wide for my use and packs down small with the help of the 2 velcro cinch straps (also included). Very please..only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that I've yet to sleep on it. Most likely the best value for this type of mat. Advertised weight is 5lbs, 2oz. Happy Camping!!
