These Hedgehog III GTX XCR hiking shoes from The North Face offer lightweight construction, a stout, supportive fit and waterproof protection to keep feet as happy as a hedgehog on the trail.
- Synthetic leather uppers with nylon mesh panels are flexible, lightweight and durable for breathable, comfortable use on the trail
- Reinforced toe boxes and molded rubber heel counters protect uppers from abrasion; gusseted and padded tongues keep out debris and add comfort
- Seam-sealed Gore-Tex® XCR® inserts with wicking nylon linings offer waterproof protection while allowing your moisture vapor to escape
- Removable EVA footbeds feature forefoot and heel cushioning pads and built-up heels for enhanced support
- Dual-density EVA midsoles deliver all-day cushioning and shock absorption; heels feature a stiffened cradle to help center the heel and enhance stabilty

I have purchased a pair of these every year for the last 4 years and getting ready to buy my 5th pair in a month or so.
They are hands down the best all around shoe I have ever owned. Gore-tex, completely waterproof, comfortable, and they are acceptable to wear as sneakers with casual wear. I probably wear these shoes 300 out of the 365 days of the year, possibly more often than that.
They generally last me about on year since i wear them so heavily. For the last couple years I put in Superfeet insoles in them to hold up to the increased walking I do since moving to NYC. That is really the only downfall, but I think for most people the stock insoles would work just fine.
I have never purchased any other shoe more than once but these are 100% worth every penny, every time.

I've had these shoes for over two years. They have held up great as an almost everyday shoe. They had a lot of use on day hikes, trail runs, car camping and exploration. I love the Gore-Tex keeping my feet dry while it's wet out or crossing streams.
They get a little hot and stuffy on real hot days, but I can't fault the shoe since it is obviously not built as a ventilator / hot weather shoe.
Durable, comfortable, dry, everyday shoes.

I was surprised how much I like these...right out of the box. There are many more miles to be hiked, but these shoes have exceeded my expectations for the past two weeks (about 24 miles of hiking). They seem very durable, lightweight, and have GREAT traction. The first pair were ordered online and shipped to my house. They were a bit snug, but not enough to bother me. What did bother me was that the lining on both shoes was bulging towards my feet in the area between the front tip and the bottom lace. I thought they might need some breaking in. [...] It turns out they had a bit of a defect. I tried another pair of the same size plus a second set one-half size larger. The half-size larger was perfect. Great shoe + [...] = one very happy hiker.

Picked these up the day before a weekend in Pocono Mtn. region of PA. Rained heavy all day and shoes stayed nice and dry. Comfortable right away with very little break in needed. Only complaint was they seemed pretty warm for this time of year. Fall temps and these would have been perfect.

These shoes are fantastic. My dad bought them for me several years ago on a camping trip through Colorado, and they've held up like a couple of tanks. I do a lot of trail running, rough hiking, and active sports with them on, and the traction is primo. If you need a dependable low-top hiking/trail-running shoe, these are a great buy.

I have been looking for hiking/casual shoes that can be used on a daily basis when my full hiking boots are not necessary. Wanted comfort, fit, protection from water, and attractive appearance. The North Face Hedgehog III fulfilled all of these needs. Right out of the box they felt as though I had been wearing them for a month. Very comfortable. Excellent grip and support on our local trails. Would highly recommend these shoes for daily wear as well. Fantastic cushioning and support on all surfaces.
As previously noted in other reviews, the Hedgehog seems to run a bit long... I took this into consideration and ordered an 11 rather than the 11.5 I would normally wear... the fit was perfect!

I've only had them for a few weeks. But they seem great thus far. I bought them for a lighter weight hiking shoe and every day use when I need something more durable then some average tennis shoe. There was next to no break in needed. They seem to be very well built and I expect they will hold true to the other reviews I've read. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because I have not had them long enough to give that kind of rating.
