Comments about Shimano MT33L Bike Shoes - Men's:
I wanted to evolve from a knuckle dragging, neanderthal, "I don't need no stinking pedal clips" kinda guy to an actual mountain biker. I decided to go with a pair of Shimano M424 pedals and these shoes as my entry into the zen-like world of becoming one with my bike. These shoes offered me the comfort and convenience of a traditional shoe while allowing me to clip in. So far they've been great!
The good: Although I had no prior experience with this type of system, I got my shoes and pedals set up in no time and everything felt good right out of the gate. REI can help you with this but I recommend you learn how to set up and adjust your shoes/clips because someday, you will probably want to make adjustments on the trail. I can wear these when commuting and on the trail so I expect to get good use out of them. These shoes have good ventilation, too.
The bad: Well, there isn't anything bad but the shoes did feel narrow in the store. I have wide feet and was concerned. I asked people in the store if these would stretch. One person told me these would not stretch and another said they would stretch, slightly, over time. Hmmmmm. As the weather warms and you warm up, your feet will expand. I do not want sore feet on a long ride but I have not experienced any problems yet. Also, I've been told that laces tend to stretch allowing a loss of power transfer. I have not had this happen yet.
Overall, I'm happy with these shoes. They look like regular shoes, they are comfortable to walk around in, have good traction and good ventilation. Great for summer! Probably not so great for wet conditions. Keep them clean (use a brush) and they should last a long time.

Comments about Shimano MT33L Bike Shoes - Men's:
I've had the MT32 which is the predecessor the MT33L for over a year and a half. They have been great shoes for commuting. I ride the train part way into DC then hop on the bike for the last 10 miles. I love the shoes because I can walk around in them with ease and the cleats rarely touch the ground. Being black and pretty subtle for bike shoes I have gotten away with wearing then around the office in a suit. This makes biking across town to a meeting a breeze since I don't neccesarily have to take off my bike shoes when walking into a meeting. I wish the shoes were stiffer for riding but if they were it would be tough to wear around for too long. Also the shoes are holding up really well and they still look great.

Comments about Shimano MT33L Bike Shoes - Men's:
if you are thinking about buying this product i suggest you spend more money and get the ones either with velcro or something else with out laces because the loops in the laces will get caught in your sprocket even if you tuck them in they will work their way out.

These are great shoes for someone who is just starting to get serious with biking but doesnt want to become a professional!
I train in my bike twice a week for 2 hours, and then usually do a long 8 hour or os ride on the weekend! These shoes are perfect for me!

Comments about Shimano MT33L Bike Shoes - Men's:
This is my first cleat shoe purchase and for the price, it does what I want. Able to both cycle and walk in them with ease.
The sole is rather thick which provides the durability. The sole is stiff enough to provide a good pedal, but gives enough to be able to walk relatively normal in. Laces hold so no need for constant re-tying of the shoe.
I've noticed my small toes going numb after about 45 minutes of pedaling. As stated, this is my first pair of cleated shows so it could be that I needed to move up a size or perhaps even adjust my cleats.
It is a good shoe to purchase for the price.

Comments about Shimano MT33L Bike Shoes - Men's:
I use these shoes on MTB, road and cyclocross. Very comfortable on all. I have about 10K miles on my current pair and the sole of one just ripped... I think it happened when I tried the trials course on my CX bike and fell over before I could unclip. You can run and hike in these shoes, and while the cleat does *touch* the floor, it really does not *gouge* it. Just makes a tapping sound. I never have any problem with the laces tangling in the hardware, and I don't even use the little clippy things. I'll definitely look at replacing this pair with the same thing.

Comments about Shimano MT33L Bike Shoes - Men's:
These shoes are great for the weekend warrior or the person just getting back into cycling. I am a mix between the two and paired these with my Cannondale MTB equipped with spd pedals. They would probably work for a more avid or skilled cyclist but since I am neither of those I can't really confirm or deny that!
Back to the shoe. They are very stiff compared to most sneaker type clipless shoes. The Pearl Izumis are nice and have a more running shoe type feel to them but these are much stiffer (if you look under the insert you will see hard plastic) but still flexible enough to walk around in. The SPD cleat is protected by the sole which creates a channel of sorts for the cleat. The laces can be tucked under a bungee like strap that goes over the tongue so they won't get caught in the spokes. The upper is a mesh material for ventilating which is great on warmer days and the toe has a rubber cap to help deflect debris and anything else that might come flying up when you are on the trail. The power transfer is great and it feels like I have an extra pedal stroke or two when I use these compared to my old running shoes.
However, my only gripe with the shoe is that the cleat still hits the ground when you are walking. I may have a defective pair that allows this but was under the impression the cleat would not contact the ground when I walk in these. Small issue really just the noise is annoying to me.
Great shoe overall though! And the price is really reasonable.

Comments about Shimano MT33L Bike Shoes - Men's:
I'm extremely happy with the MT33L shoes. I bought them for Moab so I would have secure footing in the event that I had to dismount quickly or walk up the steep bits of slickrock. They had great traction on rock and the cleats (eggbeaters) rarely touched. My bike frame broke (Thank you very much Gary Fisher!) near the turn around point on Amasa Back. I had to walk all the way out. These shoes made that hike-a-bike much more pleasant. They are a very good looking shoe unlike many recreational mtb shoes. They are obviously heavier and less stiff than a racing shoe but they certainly don't feel heavy or flexy. In fact they are impressively stiff for their class. They're well ventilated & offer great protection for your feet. I've heard that Shimano shoes fall apart quickly. Time will tell on that - but they seem to be very well made. They do run a bit small. I usually wear a 42 or 42-1/2 but had to go for the 43's and they are very comfortable. The laces were not at all too long or getting in the way of anything like some other people have reported. Price is very fair.

Comments about Shimano MT33L Bike Shoes - Men's:
I took these out on an mtb ride, and it killed my little toes. They fit good in the store, but once I got out, my feet got jammed in the end on the bike. I bought a 46, and my road bike shoes are shimano and they're a 45 and fit fine which leads my to believe this particular model may run a bit narrow. That being said, I think it would probably be a really good shoe if it fit me well. Seemed to be sturdy and well ventilated, and the price was certainly right. Bummed I have to take these back.

I ride once or twice a week and these shoes are really great for me. They are comfortable, look good and easy to walk with. Can be used for road but are rugged enough for mountain biking. I would definitely recommend these to anyone that is in the marker for cycling shoes.
