Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
I'm a sub-ultralight hiker(5 pounds or less). This is the perfect size pack for overnights if you have very compact gear. I carry a thermolite liner a bivy a ridgerest cut short i strap the ridgerest to the outside of the pack vertically using the compression strap, and ofcourse the essentials. But for most people this would make a great day pack it has plenty of room for a rain shell an extra layer and the basics. The zipper in the back panel gives very easy access to the hydro system. the main outer pocket easily fits a helmet. It doesnt shift when you run with it. the zippers open and close easily with one hand. the hipbelt pockets are large enough for two clif bars. i also use this pack for school and it can carry up to 3 large textbooks. my camelbak bitevalve leaked once and i didnt notice it till the pack was sitting in a puddle of water but my books were bone dry. all around an excellent choice. buy it it wont let you down.

Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
I have owned the Gregory Miwok 18 over a year and primarily use it on my walks with my dog, to carry a couple bottles of water (one for me and one for my dog), my dogs Ruff Wear folding water bowl, snacks, sunglasses, and several other items, with plenty of room to spare! The pack is form-fitting and very comfortable for this purpose.
However, on September 24th of 2011, I put the pack through it's paces by using it on a Day Hike on Mt. Whitney. I packed 22 lbs. of gear -- mostly water weight (3 L. Platypus bladder which fit in the hydration sleeve, and two 32 oz. Nalgene water bottles which fit in the water bottle pockets without slipping out), but including plenty of snacks, toiletries, microspikes (which I didn't use), a headlamp, a flashlight, phone, first aid, a whistle -- and still the Miwok 18 held up beautifully.
While the pack held up very well, I would not recommend using it to carry heavy loads, as it is a frameless pack with no weight distribution to the hip belt. My left shoulder paid the price for carrying all that weight, and was rubbed raw. On a side note, I could have done without both 32 oz. water bottles. The 100 fl. oz. Platypus was more than enough water.
All in all, this is a great day pack for carrying books and everyday items in the city, to packing in the gear and summiting the peaks for day hike.

Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
After a few day of research, this is the pack I ended up with and I'm glad I did. I needed a day pack for mountain biking and biking around town and this is perfect. It is light weight and has 2 large compartments with several small compartments hiding all over this thing. Perfect for your keys, wallet, small sunscreen, bug spray, cell phone etc... it expands if you overload it and excepts a hydration bladder if you decide you want one. It also has two water bottle pockets. The engineering behind this is pretty awesome. Trust me you wont be disappointed with this pack, its worth the money. I have only had it a week so I haven't really had a chance to test the quality, but its a Gregory and they have always made great packs and REI will alway take it back if the thing doesn't hold up so never a worry. So theres always a con right? I'm 200 lbs and the waist strap is fully extended to get around me, so if you're bigger then me and you think there might be an issue, you may want to try this on before ordering on line, all the other straps are plenty long enough though.

Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
Great day pack/light use pack!!
Tons of compartments, straps and netting to hold a bunch of stuff. The pack literally just molds itself around the items you are carrying.
Because the pack doesn't have any rigid padding it contours really well to your body and feels snug. Also, the pack rolls up and stows away pretty easily and also lays very flat when empty.
The straps are nicely padded and contour well around your shoulders, also the lumbar strap with netting is really convenient and only improves the feel of the pack while wearing it.
I highly recommend this product. If you are hesitant about the size, I believe that there is a slightly larger size than the 18 as well.

Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
An amazing pack. I have found so many uses for it since I bought it that I hardly leave the house without it. Everything from college books, hydration for long runs and day hikes.
I do wish central compartment was easier to load and unload. It just has a small top loading mouth that for my larger college books is a bit inconvenient.

Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
The story begins when I was looking for a hydration pack for my trail runs. I ran into the bio-sync series by Gregory. I first bought the Wasatch. Perfect pack for a day hike/trail run/bike ride. I then started bringing it to work with me, fitting a few books and essentials. At this point, I akined the Wasatch to a murse. However, sometimes if I'm out all day, I have to bring a few more things with me for convenience, and with the Wasatch, it was just not enough. So, after time I upgraded to the Miwok. Same comforts and capabilities. Bonus, there is a zipper that give you diect access to the hydration department to the side of the pack, as well as the top access. Great for when i want to reach for a book or essencial without wrestling around in my pack.
I will say if you're tall, this might not be the pack for you. I'm 5,7" and this pack just barely fits me. When the pack is full, it looks bulky and awkward but believe me that your load will stay nice and center and snugg -- it being a sternum pack and all. But, the compact capabilities for when I really need to load this what I really need.
I now use this pack specifically for day hikes/travel/and to serve as my murse. Ha ha! I'm keeping the Wasatch as my trail runner/scout bag to pack away in my larger packback for my packpacking trips.

Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
Have had this for about a year. Love it. Did a lot of research before purchasing this one. Holds a lot for it's small size and weight. I now use it as my all-around travel-pack as I like it so much.
Remember though, this is a lightweight STERNUM pack. Like for day hikes, adventure-racing, maybe trail-running, mountain biking. It doesn't sit on your hips, unless you are a small person. It isn't intended to. It's for traveling light. Buy a different kind of pack if you want it to sit on your hips like a multi-day backpack.

Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
Excellent pack for island sightseeing, well engineered, multiple pockets for large and small things. once fully packed it can easily accomodate air line traveling under seats and overhead storage, basicly lived out of that pack for a week on Kauai. Holds all day trip essentials, first aid pack and emergency suppies were easy to find and pack expands or contacts for extra clothing and lunch for two. I added a screw lock carbiner to top so I could clip the pack to the extended handle on my luggage as a theft preventer.

The other reviews have pretty well nailed this. A great pack with a quality feel to it. I load it with what I need for the day and go. It replaces an Osprey I have had for years that has gone with me all over the world and has allowed me to not miss my old pack. Great piece of gear!

Comments about Gregory Miwok 18 Pack:
I purchased both the Miwok 18 & the Maya 18 for my wife and we couldn't be happier. We used these on several day hikes, mountain biking, geocaching & on vacation. These packs have a great amount of storage and really can be stuffed with whatever your adventure calls for. Hip & shoulder straps are well padded & comfortable the hip pockets are suprisingly large easily holding personal items, gps, or camera. Packs give you a custom feel and handle a fair amount of weight without issue considering the compact style. Very light and breathable material through out entire pack makes these great even on longer days. These are hands down the most versatile packs we have purchased in years. If you are looking for a multi-purpose, well made, durable pack with attention to detail. Gregory has nailed it with the Miwok & Maya. Well worth it.
