Tried and true

After singeing my old pair of beloved Vasques, I had to break down and buy a new pair just before a 10-day adventure on the Pacific Crest Trail. After hours of trying on a variety of boots, I finally settled on these. I couldn't be happier! My feet are rather temperamental and usually give me problems no matter what I do. However, after 10 days on the trail, carrying 50 lbs and hiking 8-10 miles a day through pretty rough terrain, my feet are just fine. Yes, I got blisters on the trail and, yes, my feet hurt by the end of the day, but that's just my feet. These boots were comfortable and significantly cut down on pain and discomfort I normally experience. They performed beautifully! Thanks, Vasque!

Great boot!

I am a natural "read every review possible" type of buyer, especially for outdoor gear. I had tried on many boots, and a friend recommended these and I'm so glad I bought them! I bought them to be an all season hiking boot, and thus far they have worked pretty well for the winter. I went snowshoeing all day in them and they held up great in the deep snow. Super waterproof, although not the warmest boots. My feet got cold but I just stuck some foot warmers in there and I was good to go. I don't think their intent is for winter, but I have used them multiple times in the snow and they are great. They're also super light weight and comfortable for such a sturdy boot.

Failed twice.

I bought this product to wear for work (8-12 miles of hiking per day). Within a month, the gore-tex lining bunched up near my toes. This created sharp edges and a ridge that gave the top of my toes blisters. I returned them to the manufacturer, and they were replaced. The new pair had the same problem within a few weeks. I used to have a high amount of brand loyalty with Vasque, but now I'm looking for a new brand of boots. Vasque no longer makes durable, quality products.

Worked on Kilimanjaro!

I got these because water proof boots were recommended for Mt. Kilimanjaro. They worked great on that trek! Traction was great, they handled mud and wet well, my feet were toasty and never a hint of a blister. Only downside was my pre-trip break-in period took longer than I expected. A couple pressure point problems with the lacing... experimented with lacing techniques and resolved nicely. Well worth the patience. This is my second pair of Vasques... the first I wore for years as a wilderness ranger and they lasted through 3 re-solings.

Disappointed

These boots seem so perfect but when you get down to it they won't last long enough to be worth it. I work as a field technician meaning I hike for hours a day and I got these boots in March. There is so much I love about them: no break-in time and a good supportive fit plus good waterproofing. But it all means nothing due to poor construction. It took less than two months for the rubber on the toe to start peeling off. I thought I could just get the rubber reglued but now the rubber has several splits in it. It's not worth the price to replace them every 4-6 months. Also, a coworker of mine bought some Vasque boots of a different model and hers did the same thing. Until Vasque improves the sole design or materials, I'll be staying away from their boots.

Ankle biter

My husband has a pair of the mens Vasque boots and loves them, I really wanted to like this hiking boot, I purchased it about a month before a trip to Big Bend National Park, I wore them a few times and walked in them. I wore them the first day of hiking, 13 miles total. The next day when I put them on to hike my ankle bone was very sore and I could not wear the boots, it was very painful. The ankle support is good but too stiff for me and the padding did not seem to be in the right place.

Not good for narrow feet

These boots fit great when I first tried them on at the store and then at home, felt a little stiff but figured that would be easily solved after breaking-in. Unfortunately, after wearing them for a light walk for about 2 hours, I noticed the fit was too wide and loose for my narrow feet (even in thick wool socks) and my toes and toe nails began to feel sore due to the roomier fit which allowed my toes to rub and shift inside the shoe. Boots were very promising, but they'll be going back!

Finally!

Finding the right boot has been a never ending saga for me. For one thing, I do not like to hike in boots. Early season in the mountains with snow still on the trail and more stream crossings or trails that are acting like streams, I want more than a trail runner. So, I wanted a lightweight, all leather, full size hiking boot with some flexibility, a wide toe box, and OK all-around comfort. This seems to be it. I put probably 300-400 miles on these in a couple months last year, and they did what I wanted them too. I don't want to have to think about my boots after I put them on or be afraid to put them back on the next day. These I wore all week for work, hiking and clearing trails, then put them right back on for a weekend recreation backpack trip. Looks like they'll hold up for another season too, with a fresh coat of mink oil to keep the leather happy and add a little more water proofing.

Good construction, not the right width

This was my second pair of hiking boots to try- and unfortunately these were not a good fit. I found that I have very narrow feet and these were far too wide. I got very bad blisters on my heels- towards the bottom. Would not recommend for anyone with a narrow foot. However, the construction was very sturdy, lots of support and great ankle padding. This shoe would work much better for someone in need of a wider shoe.

Beyond Amazing

I have been using these boots for several months now and have been nothing but pleased with them! They've lasted entire days covered in snow and my feet stayed warm and dry inside. There was virtually no break-in period and they've been comfortable from day one. Vasque has a great reputation for long-lasting products, so I look forward to using these boots for many winters, rainy seasons, and backpacking trips!
