Comments about REI LED Trail Cap:

I like it a lot, but haven't used it much yet. The one-button interface, like so many, is a little annoying. If you've clicked it one through three times to select the mode you want, you need to click it the remaining number of times to turn it off. That's a nuisance. I've had other lights like this that would know after they'd been on for a while that you'd want the next click to just turn it off - which is convenient.
Also, I have a large head and often the one-size-fits-all caps are too small. This one is very large so I've got it adjusted down toward the small end of the range, which is great for me, but someone with a smaller head might run out of adjustment or have a big overhang on the velcro tab with little holding contact. I plan to buy another one or two and keep them around for future replacement. Quality seems very good.

Comments about REI LED Trail Cap:

Amazing hat... Not often do I find hats that actually do more than just cover the head. The lights are lined up perfectly, so that the first click points down not forward to illuminate what you are doing... second click engages the forward facing lights. Third makes the lights blink, fourth turns it off.

Velcro straps in the back hold sufficiently even after long term wear and tear. Proven washable, just dont forget to remove the battery pack. It's not a battery hog, my kids have turned the light on without me noticing it (not wearing it of course...) and left it on for hours, and it'll still hold a charge.

I've used this hiking on trails at night, camping, outside at night around the house and in town, and amusingly enough, around the house so I don't wake up the entire family. We've had our 3rd child, and with the light from this hat i can change the baby without waking anyone else up with overhead lights.

One thing to NOT do with it. Never use this hat to bat at insects... I've had to reglue the battery casing after breaking it on impact.

Beware of bad design and manufacturing. I am on my second replacement. They consistently have stitched through the wires, causing the light to fail rapidly. A simple protective channel over the wire would protect it.
