Comments about Deuter Kid Comfort II Child Carrier:
I really can't say enough great things about this pack.
USES: We have it right next to our front door because it comes with us to so many places: on hikes, to the store/post office, music festivals, baseball games, etc. We've taken our 7-month-old to climbing and bouldering areas in this pack and are looking forward to his first overnight backpacking trip. I even put him in it sometimes when I'm doing chores around the house because he loves being in there so much. We are using it now more than the Ergo Baby (which is my second favorite kid carrier) because we can carry so much stuff in it. Our friends with Kelty packs come over and try this pack on and tell us how they like ours so much better.
FEATURES WE LIKE: My husband is substantially bigger than I am but it only takes a second to adjust this pack when we trade off. It is very stable when the kick stand is out so it works well as a portable exersaucer/activity seat or even high chair.
STORAGE: The bottom compartment zipper is not so easy to work because of the angle, especially when it is stuffed with snacks, jackets, blankets and diaper stuff. But I love that there is so much storage and that there are so many compartments for keeping stuff organized and easily accessible.
MAKING DO: Because this pack doesn't have stirrups, we have to reach back and hold our kid's feet so he can stand up and readjust his position every once in a while. We added a rear view mirror on a string so we can keep an eye on the little guy to see if he's drifting off to sleep.
I highly recommend this pack to active people whose lives haven't slowed down since their kids were born.

Comments about Deuter Kid Comfort II Child Carrier:
These are built for long carries, on flats or trails.
The padding and supports keeps me comfortable for at least an hour between breaks with 32lbs of baby & water. It kept me stable on uneven terrain or when she's moving around. I would recommend trekking poles for rougher terrain, as even the best kid carriers are not as stable as a backpack. For those with longer backs or tall folks, this has the unique ability to adjust to long torsos, much longer than any others I've tried.
There is plenty of storage (~17L), plus a sleeve for a bladder and the included sun shade. Construction and durability has been top notch. The baby seat can be removed for washing.
My 3yr old girl never complains about rides, and has good visibility. They sell two accessory rain covers. I would get the bigger one as getting your baby 1/2 wet is still not acceptable.
The main thing I don't like is that rear structural bar is free to move on its hinge. Many carriers (except the Kelty FC) uses this design. If you fall on your back, you'll crush your little one. If the Kelty FC with the fixed frame fits you, that will be the safer bet.
All the long-carry comfort and trail stability means this is a large pack. It will not fit as a carry-on item on flights, or the metal frame may hit people in very crowded places. But for outdoor use, this is perhaps the best kid carrier out there.

Comments about Deuter Kid Comfort II Child Carrier:
I'm 5'1 and the Kelty hung over my butt, while this pack was able to adjust to fit me. There is plenty of storage and even a pocket to fit a hydration pack. I just logged my first few miles and it performed great, my 5.5 month old baby girl loved it too. This was just what I needed to get out and exercise while bringing my baby to places a stroller can't. It is very stable and the weight is distributed well. I am excited to get more hikes in this summer.

Comments about Deuter Kid Comfort II Child Carrier:
The backpack itself is more-or-less great and is one of the lighter frames. Here are the pros:
1. The harness is adequately adjustable
2. well built, durable
3. one of the lighter frames out there
The Cons:
1. the worst sunshade on the market and you have to pay another $40 to get it! Plus, there is no where to store it on the pack when not in use!
2. poor use of possible storage space, but adequate
3. the harness is a pain to get the kid into due to buckle positions. (compared the GREAT harness system in the Osprey design)
I like this pack overall, but I would improve the harness (by stealing the Osprey design) and offer a sunshade WITH the pack that is functional. The storage space is adequate, not a big deal. The Osprey pack was too heavy and had a few too many gadgets, but was nice and the Kelty was just not "real" enough for the backcountry I felt.

Comments about Deuter Kid Comfort II Child Carrier:
I have owned the carrier for about 3.5 years. I have 2 kids that I use it with. Both of them love it. When it is sitting in the living room both kids would climb in it and want me to take them for a ride. I would walk around the yard with them for fun. When they were real little, I have used it to get some yard work done when mom wasn't around.
It is great for hikes of every length and many times we have used it instead of a stroller for outings. It is not small enough to keep with you just in case. We have a small bjorn baby carrier for that. But I have found myself wishing for the deuter on some long outings.
I tried on every other carrier. I would try them on with my daughter and walk around the store for a couple of hours to make sure of comfort. Hands down none were as comfortable long term than the Deuter.
I was not planning on spending this much, but I knew that if it was not comfortable I would not use it. I wanted to like putting it on and being happy to carry the kids around. A kid is enough to keep me busy and not able to hike without the dread of hating to put them on my back. I have been so thankful I bought it many, many times. Absolutely worth every penny.
One thing to note is it fits a little lose around the child when they are real little. It is not been a problem. I jut have found myself wishing I could tighten it up a bit more. It is not a safety concern. They will not fall out, but it could be a little more snug. Yet neither of my kids care.
The only negative is no good place to store sun/rain shade. Not a deal breaker.

We absolutely love this carrier! It was very comfortable on several long hikes. We look forward to taking it with us as we travel to the Alps for more hiking! Our son was also able to fall asleep when he got tired. He was extremely comfortable in it and well protected by the sun shield.

This pack has it all. Waistbelt is nice and comfortable! The pack has 18L of storage capacity, tons of adjustments and there's an optional sunshade/raincover. I use this on Yosemite day hikes, walking the dogs and going to the grocery store. Bottom line...don't miss out on this.

I tried using it for an hour or so twice. It was set up at the store by the REI employee. So, it should have been set up properly. Each time my back would hurt pretty badly the next day. We ended up taking it back.

Comments about Deuter Kid Comfort II Child Carrier:
This pack has been great! We even hauled our 7 month old son through the airports & to Hawaii in it, & enjoyed several hikes there as well. It holds the child securely & comfortably, meanwhile being quite comfy for the one doing the carrying too. The extra attention to detail goes a long way! Our little guy loves to look around wherever we go. I love that it is camelback compatible (although a little tricky to put in) & the large storage places to haul extra clothes, treats, & essentials. The sun/rain shade is a nice accessory we use & like.
