Comments about Marmot PreCip Safari Hat:
This hat would've been perfect if it wasn't for the annoying magnets. In theory, magnets are a great idea. However, go out on a hike on a sunny AND windy day, and this hat just does not deliver. The wind causes the sides of the hat to push up and they bind to the top because of the magnets, thereby exposing your neck and ears to the sun when you don't want it to.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Safari Hat:
I've worn this hat for a few seasons now and really love it. I'm in the desert so its perfect for keeping the sun off and extremely breathable for a rain hat. Its the only hat I need except in cold temps.
When I take a break during hikes I can set it in the sun and it dries out quickly. The material is super sturdy. Even after all the bushwacking I've done with it there are no tears and no fraying at all. If I have to push through tall catsclaw, I just put my head down-- the brim protects my face from everything sharp and the hat comes out undamaged.
Its easy to clean as well and it packs up super small. You can even fold it as small as you can and it won't damage it.
My only issue is the stupid magnets that fold the sides up. When the hat was new, this was a major issue-- the brim always seemed to want to fold up on its own. Now that its been worn and beaten in pretty well, this is only a problem in windy conditions. Snaps would have been a much better idea.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Safari Hat:
This hat is pretty good, it has its advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages: Wide brim keeps sun out of face and eyes. Magnets are strong and keep sides up. The flexibility to push sides up is convenient when you desire a bit of sun. Chin strap is nice on windy days. Fairly stylish for outdoorwear. Scrunches up nice and small for packing and storage. Very fast drying (rain and/or sweat).
Disadvantages: The wind can blow the sides up and they stay there due to the strong magnets (would recommend a snap for keeping up vs the magnets - although when purchased, I was enamored with the magnets). The plastic slider to adjust the chin strap fell off after a couple of uses, I can still knot it where I need it, just not as convenient. Not very breathable.
All in all, it is a great hat, but to do it again, I would probably purchase one with snaps instead of magnets.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Safari Hat:
I needed a hat that would provide rain protection and sun protection without being too warm/heavy.
Pros:
The hat fits nicely.
The hat breaths well; my head never got too hot even when hiking in the sun all day.
The has is truly waterproof and performed wonderfully in downpours; I prefer this hat over a hood which I find too constricting.
Cons:
The magnets are a great idea but even in light wind, the brim will flip up and the magnets will catch. On a windy day, it is impossible to keep the brim down for more than a few seconds. This meant that on numerous occassions, I had rain coming down the neck of my jacket, and I had to apply extra sunscreen to my ears and neck.
Overall, this is a good hat. If this brim were just slightly more rigid, the hat would be perfect.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Safari Hat:
I wear this hat a lot, even when it's not raining. I like the wide brims and it breaths well even in warm weather. I also like the styling of the magnets vs. velcro or other attachments.
In regards to other poster's comments about wind, yes the brim will blow around. If it's windy and rainy, I'd tuck this hat under my rain jacket hood, and that keeps the hood away from my eyes and keeps the brim from flapping.
I recently lost my green one, and am here on website buying a second one -- will probably get the beige.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Safari Hat:
Love the fact that it has a mesh lining vs the Nylon/polyester that the Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero has. Three experienced hikers where in REI the same day I was and they had moved on from the Seattle Sombrero b/c they over heated in they sombrero. The Marmot PreCip Safari is perfect if you don't encounter winds during a rain storm (like that happens) Other wise from the last 3 days of use the brim folds right up to the side magnets and then you are better just taking the sombrero off. The Brim is way too flimsy, does not stay shaped and blows up to magnets in the wind :( Other wise the Marmot sombrero does WONDERFUL job at keeping you dry in a DOWNPOUR! I actually had a small amount of rain sitting on top of the brim 2 days ago when there was no wind while using the sombrero. Wish Marmot would have used regular snap buckles one the sides and then this sombrero would be bombshell!!!!
