Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek IV Bike Shoes - Men's:
If you have a wider foot, this is your shoe. I had 6 boxes open and was becoming discouraged when I came upon this one. I knew instantly and since proven correct. A glove like fit.
In the Las Vegas area, when you step off the paved trail in the desert you step into rock and gravel on uneven surfaces. With the high traction sole and the recesses cleat, this is the shoe for that. As a paved city trail commuter I have to un-cleat in drives quit often. This is a shoe for having to come off the peddles often.
In my hands the soles are very stiff which suggest the shoe is capable of extensive energy transfer but on my foot if walks as nicely as any of my trail shoes.
I seldom write reviews but I am that impressed.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek IV Bike Shoes - Men's:
I bought these shoes a few weeks ago, after I retired my pair of the previous generation of similar Pearl Izumi shoes (which in turn replaced a pair before that). Each of the previous pairs served me for about three years as my regular biking shoe. I've bike toured with them as my only shoe, in Ecuador, Europe, and California. My only complaint is that I wish they could be slightly more durable -- I retired the last pair after the cloth lining came apart in the heel, and one of the lace eyes popped open, but the sole and the main leather upper were all in good shape. That said, given the amount I wore them, they are in-line with what I consider average life expectancy for a [$] athletic shoe. What's good is that they are good for both biking and walking. I have fairly narrow feet, but they can be laced down tightly enough to get good power transfer to the pedals. I put Superfeet in them to take up a bit more space and give better arch support. I have a $300 pair of SIDI shoes, and there's not much noticeable difference between the power transfer for those and these (although the SIDIs have lasted about three times as long). They are also good for walking around. The sole is more stiff than a normal walking shoe (a compromise to make it a better biking shoe), but there is still some flex. It feels a bit different at first, but is perfectly comfortable. Time ATAC cleats -- which are a pretty similar size to Shimano cleats -- do not contact the floor, so there's no clacking sound when you walk around. I have no issues clipping in easily. So, all around good biking/walking shoe.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek IV Bike Shoes - Men's:
These were my first pair of shoes when I started mountain biking. Back then I had 1 bike and only this pair of shoes. Now I have 2 mountain bikes and 3 road bikes, but I still have these shoes. I used them mainly for MTB rides. They worked well for an inspiring rider. I still use them on my more casual MTB rides if I also plan on walking and hiking.
I have the same pedals on all my bikes so occasionally if I'm just going shopping or out to meet up with friends I'll just wear these on my road bikes so I don't have to bring sneakers.
These won't be the best shoes for an avid cyclist, but if you want an all around shoe, these are really good for the price.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek IV Bike Shoes - Men's:
The main thing to understand about these shoes is that they are NOT hard-core mountain biking shoes--they are a comfortable all purpose shoe that happens to have a stiff sole and holes for two hole type cleats. I just returned from a 750 mile tour where these were the only shoes I wore, in camp or on the bike, and they remained comfortable all the time. They may transfer a fraction less power because the sole, while stiff, does flex some, but I have not been able to tell the difference between these and a pair of PI hard core shoes that I also have in terms of power transfer. From the outside, they look like any other pair of athletic shoes, and that is exactly how they feel while walking. The cleat is recessed enough (I use Crank Bros. pedals) that there is no clicking, although I did have to use the thin Crank Bros. spacer to get optimal connect/disconnect. As mentioned in other reviews, the laces are too long, but that is easily fixed and seems to be typical of all athletic shoes today. The sizing is typical of bike shoes--I wear a 46 athletic shoe and a 48 bike shoe in both Shimano and PI. The toe box on the PI shoes is a bit wider than the Shimano, which is better after a long day of riding. I have a medium width foot, and these fit fine. I don't know of any other bike shoe that is as comfortable to walk in as these, which is important to me as I do a lot of self-supported touring, and these allow me to not carry a separate pair of camp shoes

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek IV Bike Shoes - Men's:
I thought these were supposed to be stiff to walk in. Indeed the bottom is stiff for a cross trainer but and absolute delight for a bike shoe. I can peddle for hours in these. I can lay the bike down and run up the knoll to take pictures. Very universal. Perfect commuter when there are lots of stops and foot downs. Did I say comfortable? All I needed to do is shorten the laces by cutting them then melting the ends to keep them from fraying. The long laces would catch in the big ring on occasion.
Did I say comfortable?

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek IV Bike Shoes - Men's:
These are my first biking shoes, so all I can compare them with are the cross-trainers I used to use. I've only been able to use them a few times in the month since I purchased them, and it took a while to get used to how they should fit, but I've been happy with my purchase, and find them a worthwhile investment. They are well ventilated - on chilly breezy days I can feel the breeze through the shoes, but since I'm pretty much a fair-weather biker, I'm good with that. In short, I'm happy with my purchase, and would recommend them to a rider like me.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek IV Bike Shoes - Men's:
This was my 1st pair of bike shoes to get me started on clipless pedals and so far I really like them. Very comfortable on the bike and off. My only complaint is that the cleat does touch the floor, but that could also be my placement of it on the shoe. I'm going to move it around and see how it feels..
I've noticed other reviewers mention the length of the shoelaces as a concern. But one great thing that this shoe has that they may not realize is a pocket for the laces right on the tongue. It's great because you just stuff em in there and don't have to worry about them getting in the way..
Overall very pleased and recommend to anyone.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek IV Bike Shoes - Men's:
At last someone is making size 49 shoes in a realistic width. While these are not listed as wide, they fit my 14/49 2E feet very well. Moderately lugged soles work just fine with old fashioned toe clips and straps. Comfortable enough to wear off the bike and still stiff enough for efficient pedaling. Thank you, Pearl Izumi!

I use this product when giving my Bicycle Safety classes along with the Shimano SPD two way pedals. I don't have to worry about being uncomfortable in cleats when teaching safety classes.

I bike daily with these shoes. They fit well. I added support inserts. It was easy to do.
