The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Light My Fire FireSteel Scout 2.0 Fire Starter:
The concaves in the handle is a bit annoying.
Other than that, it's okay.

Comments about Light My Fire FireSteel Scout 2.0 Fire Starter:
First let me say that this is a high quality fire starter. It is very easy to grip and it produces a very long trail of large sparks. This could easily be used to light anything that needs lighting.
It loses a star from me for being on the heavy/bulky side for what is essentially an emergency item. Chances are I will never use this thing because I always have a trusty bic lighter with me. For something I'll probably never use, I wish it was just a little bit more compact and lightweight.

Comments about Light My Fire FireSteel Scout 2.0 Fire Starter:
Near perfect design.
All the other posistives that others list about comfort, grip, design, etc. are true.
The whistle is very loud, you just have to hold it at the right angle to get it to work properly. Considering that this is more of a emergency/backup tool, incorporting a whistle into the design is a great idea. If you're in need of an emergency firestarter, chances are very high that you're also in need of a whistle.
My only gripe is that the entire product is black and dark gray. I'd much rather have a brightly colored and reflective firestarter that is easy to find in the dark. If they're going to include a lanyard, they might as well have used reflective cord.

We ditched our lighter in favor of this thing. It's easy to use, and we don't have to worry about fuel or a bad striker. Not as light as a BIC, but I think the weight difference is negligible.

the striker works great but you do need to know what you are doing to know how to start a fire.

So glad I tried this in the backyard. Tried dry grass, leaves, bark my thumb was getting sore. Read a review suggesting cotton balls. One ball, one strike. FANTASTIC!!!!!

Easily produces a huge shower of sparks. Great for back up or a primary fire starter.

Comments about Light My Fire FireSteel Scout 2.0 Fire Starter:
This firesteel will throw reliable and very large sparks. It is long enough to set against your tinder and strike, or aim. The provided striker is not well made, and will dull before the rod has been used completely. However, it can be easily replaced with a bit of hacksaw blade. I prefer to simply use the back of my knife. After making it through about half of the rod, it broke on me while I was striking it. I was very disappointed, though I did have matches as a backup. On the plus side, the provided handle is very large and comfortable to hold.

Comments about Light My Fire FireSteel Scout 2.0 Fire Starter:
I have one of these, maybe the older model, that I take along as a back up to a lighter. On a recent trip, I decided that I should use it so that I knew how when I had to. I was surprised how easy it was to use. I didn't find angle of the steel to the flint made much of a difference - it lit up first time every try. The only trick was that I brought along dryer lint as tinder. (Since hearing how great dryer lint is as tinder, I have been saving it in a gallon ziplock bag in the laundry room.) With the lint, it is almost easier to use than the ligher.

Comments about Light My Fire FireSteel Scout 2.0 Fire Starter:
Used the smaller version of this firesteel during a Cottonwood Institute survival course north of Boulder -- that worked well, too, but this model is more ergonomic with the thumb guard for the striker and even easier to use since it is a little bit larger. The whistle is a handy addition. Well-thought-out product.
