Comments about Zamberlan 298 Tundra GT Hiking Boots - Men's:
I own last year's version of this boot, and there are a few differences, so this is not a review on this exact boot. However, I love mine. I do a lot of hikes in the sierras and other boots would fall apart after 4-5 trips due to the granite dust getting in the stitching. These are durable, very comfortable, and worth every penny. I've had these for 10 trips now and they are still in good shape. They broke in after just 20 miles or so, and I've had them in winter conditions too with crampons and microspikes.
My only complaint is the relatively poor traction. These slip easily on wet logs, rocks, and snow, whereas others I've had do better. I've never fallen on my face though, so they are good enough, and I've trusted them on many class 4 climbs.

Comments about Zamberlan 298 Tundra GT Hiking Boots - Men's:
Extremely comfortable right out of the box, good on all sorts of terrain, and look to be long-lasting. I've walked about 500 miles in them so far, and look forward to many more miles. Best boots I've ever had by far.

Comments about Zamberlan 298 Tundra GT Hiking Boots - Men's:
This review is on the previous model, the 198, which I have had for 2 years. But it looks like the 298 is very similar except for the lug pattern on the soles. I'm writing a rare review because these boots are simply fantastic. I've taken them on several week+ long backpacking trips in the high Sierra and Alaska, and they've proven to be super comfy - no blisters - and handle off trail scrambles handily. Break-in was less than 25 miles. After using Asolos for many years, liking them but still getting blistered and numbness, it is great to have a friendly but tough pair of boots. They're definitely worth the price.

Comments about Zamberlan 298 Tundra GT Hiking Boots - Men's:
I was looking for a hiking boot that would be a little sturdier than my Scarpa Zens (which have been excellent for day hiking) for use on longer hikes in very rugged terrain and wanted to keep the weight down. These looked like they had the right features, but I was disappointed that no one in my area stocked them. Since I was new to Zamberlan, I was unsure about sizing, so I visited the REI store in Austin and tried a pair of Civettas that they had in stock-- very nice fit, but more than I needed. I ended up ordering the Tundras in the same size.
They arrived this afternoon by UPS. I immediately tried them on and they seemed to fit just right and the high quality was obvious. So, with a few hours of daylight remaining I headed out to a local natural area that has some rocky trails to give them a "test drive." After a 4-mile hike I am pleased to report they required virtually no break-in. They seem to have great traction, and while they provide added ankle support, they didn't feel that much heavier than my Zens.
Based on my initial experience, I'm looking forward to a long relationship with these boots.

Comments about Zamberlan 298 Tundra GT Hiking Boots - Men's:
I am a long distance hiker and have had these boots for 1 season hiking in the East everywhere from NC to MA in weather ranging from 30's to 70's both wet and dry. First off, these are incredibly comfortable boots w/ no break in time. I actually like to wear these boots casually because they are more comfortable then my normal shoes.
That said, I am extremely disappointed to say that the water-proofness has let me down. Being UL, I am constantly torn wearing these because they completely do not fit the profile, but I absolutely hate hiking in wet feet and these were my intended solution. So that said, in order to make up for the weight they needed to keep my feet dry or else i might as well be wearing trail runners or light hikers, but I have noticed that water is starting to leak through the crease in to top where the toes meet the foot under the shoe laces after only a few months. I am positive it is not sweat as I have tested it in the bathtub to be sure even after reapplying DWR.
To be completely honest I am really unhappy as I absolutely loved these shoes, but if they do not perform the function that they are intended for then they have to be replaced with something that does or I am going to have to go back to hiking in soggy sneakers which just sucks.

I've gone on 3-day backpacking trips and have probably covered close to 200 miles on these boots. I only had blisters once and afterwards I realized it was because my socks were bunched up. Great shoe and the company makes great boots in general.
