The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
Shame on you REI. The 09 model was good other than all the mesh that leaked rain. The 2010 model of this tent was THE GREATEST TALL MAN TENT EVER EVER EVER!! For 2011 REI decide to jack up the price and chop a full 10 inches off this tent. Now it's just another tent with nothing to distinguish it in it's niche. It should be on REI's sale site by July cause this one isn't going to sell.
The 2010 was legendary, the revised 2011 is a fail.
Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
I have to agree with Mr. "Prad Bitt." The changes on this 2011 version are a darn shame. I have a 2010 and I love it.
It's also really too bad, because the "Garage" accessory seems like it would have been a great addition to the 2010. I would totally have purchased a garage, but since REI decided not to make any provisions for backwards compatibility, I'll stick to my 2010. REI has also stopped selling the vestibules for the 2010's... These moves are obviously not very CO-OP'erative, and are very frustrating. A large tent purchase can blow a person's "new camping gear budget" pretty quickly. I'm sure I'm not the only one who bought the 2010 version and planned on buying a pair of vestibules in the 2011 season! BUMMER!!

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
This tent is easy to set up, once you have practiced a few times! The rain fly is very good, but in the old Hobitat 6 the water collected above the door. It looks like REI had that redesigned though. The carrying bag that it comes with is first rate: lots of compartments for stakes and poles and backpack straps for easy carrying!

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
This tent fit my requirements as far as weight, headroom, space and packed size. The garage gives a lot of additional room, I could probably work on my motorcycle in there. However the quality of the build is lacking. I set my first tent up in the yard. This can be done by one person but two would make handling the long poles easier. Also set up was the garage. I put all our gear in the tent and set up a couple chairs in the garage. After a day of rain I checked out the tent. There were small puddles of water in two corners of the tent, one by the garage and the other at the opposite end, and there were small puddles of water on the chairs in the garage. [...] I was told the tent should absolutely not leak. Well, it's getting a couple weeks from our vacation and I'm running out of time. [...]Got the new one set up and had some rain. Again, water in two corners, plus in looking around I see in one corner there's a hole in the floor material. Also, with both tents the clips at the top of tent that hold the tent to the poles are so stressed by the tension of the tent that they popped off the poles. I'm not convinced that they would stay clipped in a strong wind with the tent moving around. So, tent number two is going back and we're going to have to look for another solution. The rating is a 1 because a small sample for the same product contained the same/similar defects. While maybe not statistically significant, I'm not going to buy into "the third time's a charm" and try another one.

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
The first time setting it up in the backyard we discovered that there were stretch holes in 3 of the 4 corners near the floor. The poles pull too hard on the nylon because they are too long or not bendable enough. We returned the tent promptly and bought the Cabela's Westwind Deluxe. A much better tent that is even taller and includes the vestibule for no extra cost. The Hobitat looks cool and has near vertical walls (which means a lot of inner space) but is poorly designed and is a little overpriced for its size. REI was very good about the return.

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
We used the hobitat 6 a few times, but last week we used it in a horrible thunderstorm w/high winds and driving rain. I was worried that the tall hobitat wouldn't survive or link because of the ventilation toward the bottom of the tent. It did great! There was not one drop of rain in the tent and this was one of the worse storms of the season! My only slight complaint is that it takes two people to assemble. Since this is a car camping tent, I'm always w/someone else camping and I have other tents I use for solo camping. I was very impressed w/this tent and would highly recommend it.

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
We set up the tent for the first time and noticed that 3 of the 4 corners had small holes torn in them that went all the way through the tent material. The tent is poorly designed. The polls are too long and pull too hard on the material. The size is nice, it looks great, I only wish it would be better made.

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
I just started camping and this is my firts tent ever. I was a bit nervous getting this tent as some of the reviews here are not favorable, but upon closer inspection, those reviews are people upset that REI changed the design.
Anyway, as to THIS tent, I have nothing but good things to say. It was easy to setup and feels very sturdy. I set it up on a windy beach, and it held up wall. Also there are lots of little pockets inside for stashing gear, which is a nice touch.
I can't comment as to its performance in rain. Anyway, as a newbie to camping, I really like this tent, it feels sturdy and looks great. Also there is a ton of headroom.

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
Very poor design/quality. This tent is very difficult to set up. Either the tent poles are to long... or the tent fabric was cut to small. Not up to usual REI quality standand! Used the product for 10 days at 3 different locations this past summer. The tent was returned to REI and replaced with a "Base Camp 6"... by far a much better built and designed product at a high quality level.

Comments about REI Hobitat 6 Tent - 2011:
being an avid outdoorsman, I have been camping for over 20 years, and have utilized many tents. The concept of the Hobitat 6 was great, and being my first ever REI tent, I was quite excited to make this purchase. I used it for the first time in Yosemite National Park, and found the following issues.1. Tent was not difficult to follow instructions on for set up, and the front, not that it matters since it has double doors is color coded for ease. 2. The footprint is OK, nothing to write home about, but it does its job.3. The tent itself is built way too tight and even after the first use I found some strain in the stitch work where it hooks to the poles. 4. The Fly design was poor, and allowed too much condensation in areas that should not have any. 5. The inside of the tent is not worth the price difference of the Hobitat 4. We fit a full and twin air mattress with no additional room. In fact they were pushing on the edges of the tent6. The poles are a little too big and do not make putting up the tent easily. Allow yourself at least 2 people to put this up. We had it together from start to finish within 20 minutes. On a side note against REI: Make sure to check everything before going as our tent was sold to me as brand new. However it was missing 4 of the 8 stakes, and all of the tie downs for the fly. It had leaves in it and showed use. I ended up returning this tent and purchased the Kingdom 6. Much Much better. [...]
