Comments about ExOfficio Bugsaway Ziwa Convertible Pants - Women's:
I wore these pants for a week in the Amazon. I don't think I got bit on my bottom half while wearing them, though while camping one night I definitely had a bug in my tent (and wasn't wearing these pants) and got bit to pieces.
These pants fit which was my ultimate decider in getting them over the Columbia insect wear. The zippers don't stick on the zip offs and come off easily/ go back on easily. They are wearable as shorts too, although it is more for comfort than fashion. There are also zippers on the ankles to fit the pants over shoes.

I wore these to the rainforest in Ecuador. The zip-off option was definitely needed as I wanted the extra protection on my legs while hiking in the jungle, but couldn't wait to peel off the bottom part to cool off when we were more out in the open! I think the bug repellent in the pants worked... but maybe I was just so sweaty they slid off me ;) Also, I chose these over other similar pants because there was elastic in the waist so they stretched when your body needed to contort a bit during steeper trails.

Comments about ExOfficio Bugsaway Ziwa Convertible Pants - Women's:
Well, these were a bit of a letdown. I spent the extra money on $90 pants for the extra bug protection while in the forests of Belize. However, even with DEET and these pants and a bug repellent shirt, I got eaten alive. Mosquitoes love me, so that may not be the pants' fault.
But in general, these pants were nothing special. They were comfortable enough, but they seemed to hold odor. I bought a regular pair of lightweight breathable zip-off pants for half the price from a discount store and that pair was BETTER than these Bugsaway pants - I ended up wearing the other pair for most of the trip.
These pants MIGHT be worth it at the sale price if you can't find another good pair elsewhere, but I won't pay $90 for them again. If mosquitoes love you, too, and you know you're going to get bites, these pants won't make it any better, so don't spend the extra money.

I bought these pants for a recent trip to Italy, where I would be needing to wash items in the hotel sink. They washed easily, dried very quickly, and were very comfortable. Honestly, I lived in these pants ... my other pants barely got worn the whole trip. The weight of the fabric was perfect ... I was never too hot or too cold. I liked the convertible feature, but didn't use it this trip. The bugsaway feature was useful and effective when hiking. I wish they also offered these pants in black.

Comments about ExOfficio Bugsaway Ziwa Convertible Pants - Women's:
I've been looking for the perfect hiking pants for literally *years.* After trying almost every brand you can, I finally settled on these for a couple of reasons (and FYI I'm a 5'3'' and a size 10). I bought these in summer 2010 and used them on a 3 week backpacking trip, plus several weekend trips and many day trips that included scrambling. Overall I would say I used them about 35- 40 days over a 3 month period.
*The rise is perfect. While other pants either have too much droopiness, or the rise is too tight and bunches I never had a problem with these bunching or pinching.
*Enough allowance in the thigh area. I have big muscle thighs. I also have a smaller waist. Trying to find pants that accommodate both of these things? Hard. These pants do that. For that alone I will continue buying them.
*Excellently placed pockets for things I use everyday, like my pocket knife to open up lunch and dinner packets. But not so many that they are overkill.
*I really like the zippers at the bottom of the pant legs, I can easily take off the lower let without having to take off my boots.
*Material is very nice, not too warm and bulky, light enough to dry quickly but also provides some comfort when it gets cool. The material also just feels very nice next to skin. I wore these for 3 weeks straight on a backpacking trip and the material never felt uncomfortable.
*Buggy protection. This wasn't a factor that I considered during my testing process because I don't really care about it, fit was much more important to me. However, when the skeeters were so bad in the Enchantments that I couldn't leave the tent without getting attacked, I was glad to not have to bug juice up my legs.
The only thing I would say is that the seaming is coming undone in the rear, but I think thats primarily my own fault. I used these pants for scrambling trips where we were scooting on our butts over talus and debris and so obviously that poked a couple of holes in my butt and the seaming started to come undone. That said I will still be buying this pair of pants until they stop making them.
