I picked this up a few weeks ago in anticipation of a very warm summer. Initially I was quite pleased, it works very well in 90+ weather, keeping me sunburn free without smothering me.

Sadly, the sun protection is the sole virtue of the garment. It is a bit too delicate for regular outdoor use, as the seams / stitching began to show wear almost immediately. The sleeves are also a bit too long, but that may have been for extra protection.

The biggest flaw is the funk. I've owned many capilene garments over the years and none have generated the funk that this garment does. Even after an afternoon of light use, it reeks. This isn't really ideal for a garment that's intended for use in hot sunny weather.

Just wore this for the four hottest days of the year, without washing it. It was comfortable every minute I had it on. My kids - who think it's chic to buy stuff you never use - wonder why I *use* the hood. It keeps the sun off, and keeps you cool too. You feel every breeze, on your skin, like the hoody isn't on; but your skin stays cool because it is. The kangaroo pocket and the keyper loop are nice touches. I've used it post-hike; cookout; hangout; at the pool; and it will be my beach and sailing cover too. I have two. Does that tell you enough? Don't know about its durability yet, but so far, so good, and I've seen nothing to give me doubts. I prefer it next to skin; I think most people will.

I'm 5'11"/162 lbs and the Med. was too large - which is strange as I also ordered a Patagonia Med. fleece and that fit fine. Also the fit was a bit baggy and I was looking for something more athletic. Never used it so can't comment on function. Returned.

I bought this for sun protection on summer snow (glaciers, etc.) and it's epic. The light gray color reflects the sun and I'm actually cooler wearing the long sleeves than without it. I just spent 3 days in direct sun on Mt. Jefferson and came back without a sunburn other than on my face. If you get tired of putting on sunscreen every hour (or often forget to), do your skin a favor and buy this right away.

I have to respectfully disagree with the other fellow Tucsonan about the 2 star rating. I agree that this garment will stink it up after some usage, no worry for me. Just took this on a rugged 21 mile backpack through the Sycamore Canyon near Sedona. It was the only thing I wore up top for the whole trip. Great sun protection, a snare or two on some cactus stuff, brutal arizona terrain can tweak it a little (only cosmetic, doesn't matter to me) Also used in flagstaff 60 degree weather and perfect for throwing a little disc, chilling, going out, doing whatever.
I'm a PE teacher so i'm outside a lot, this works great, the hoodie is cool, sleeve length is perfect. I'm 6'4 200 and the Large fits perfectly and pretty athletic like, stylish to a decent extent. I have long arms too and this worked well.
I wish they had them in cooler colors cause i just don't dig an alpha green. Would recommend for sure, especially in Tucson, hot areas
