R280 is designed specifically to fit women and features Warp Strength® Technology (WST), allowing the harness to be shaped and contoured for great support and comfort
WST eliminates the need for excessive padding by uniformly spreading the load across the entire harness
Self-locking 7075 T6 aluminum buckle at the waist provides an extra margin of safety by allowing adjustments while maintaining the proper double-back configuration
4 webbing loops sewn directly to harness are sheathed by injection-molded polyurethane gear loops
Shaped for forward racking, polyurethane gear loops are reversible and removable; loops remain flexible in extreme cold
Core of tie-in points and belay loop feature Wear Safety Markers; when the sheath is worn, bright orange will show to indicate that abrasion to structural webbing may occur
Stretchy leg loops offer a precise fit without restricting range of motion

This harness lives up to the hype.

It packs down small

It breathes well

It's comfy to hang in and belay in

I've only used it in gym, so I can't speak to its serviceability outdoors

The only con in my book is the sizing issue.

I had to return and repurchase 3 times! Based on my measurements(waist 27" legs 19"), and trying on a mens 2010 small which was huge on me, I purchased an X-small.

The x-small did not even make it over my hips (rather ridiculous as I have narrow hips).

I returned it and purchased a size small. This time the harness made it over my hips, but was uncomfortably tight for long term wear. Wearing more than a single layer under it would have been impossible.

I returned a second time and am now comfortably seated in a medium.

The measurements for a medium are listed as
"Medium fits waist 28.5 - 31.5 in., leg 22 - 24in." This is significantly larger than my own measurements. Size up 1 - 2 sizes when ordering!

Service and delivery comments:

Item arrived within 5 days (with standard shipping) and was in perfect condition.

Customer service for returning and repurchasing was ace as always. (Especially considering I used 3 different sources to pay: store credit, membership discount, and a credit card) The membership discount had expired by the third time I returned, but they still honored it. I love REI's return policy.

For an item like a harness, which is weight bearing, most stores do not allow returns. REI does not resell the returned merchandise and instead eats the cost. Sure that cost is transferred to the consumer in other ways, but the ultimate outcome, that I managed to get a harness that fit me perfectly (and didn't end up buying 3 harnesses on a student budget) makes it totally worth it.
