I bought these shorts to wear rock climbing. I like wearing running type shorts for climbing rather than pants, capris, or long shorts so I bought these to wear underneath my shorter shorts for modesty.

These shorts fit great. They ride up a little bit but not very much and that's to be expected: everything rides up during climbing. The shorts are very comfortable and I never have to worry about someone seeing up my shorts while I'm high on a wall.

My one concern is that chalk would stick to them or that they would get lots of snags while climbing. Chalk does stick a little bit but it's easy to brush off and then they look good as as new. Also, I've gone climbing in them six to eight times now and I have yet to find any snags anywhere on them.

All-in-all, a great short for the price.

I bought these to wear during hiking and other outside activities: under pants or looser shorts when chilly to keep my bum warm and under activewear skirts and dresses to keep my bum concealed. They work beautifully for these purposes without adding bulk and would also work well on their own because they stay in place, wick as well as other Nike DryFit products, and are so lightweight I barely knew I had them on. The comfortable wide waistband hits below the navel and doesn't roll. "Light compression" is accurate--I don't think they offer much more compression than a standard pair of spandex shorts-- so if compression is a priority, I would not recommend these. They fit consistent with Nike sizing.
