Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
Since REI doesn't have woman's clothing larger than a 16-I had to go to the men's section to find pants that fit. These are comfy, lots of pockets, and easy to wash-I hang to dry as I don't want the belt to break in the dryer. Not saying it will, just don't want to take a chance.

I wore these pants hiking through the rainforest in Costa Rica. They are really comfortable and dry extremely fast even in very humid climates. Definitely recommend them.

Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
They looked and felt great in the dressing room. I liked the fact that they are 'convertible' and light weight with plenty of pockets in the usual places. Having a short inseam, I liked the fact that they don't have bottom zippers which makes getting the pants tailored a no brainer. I bought a waist size bigger than normal to give plenty of room for movement while hiking. What I discovered is what works in the dressing room does not always translate into function in the field.
Excited to try my new gear on, I loaded up my pack and headed down a familiar 5 mi. trail with my dog. The first thing I noticed was how they tended to ride up due to the low rise design of the waist. Initially I though this might be an issue with my underwear so I preceded to remove them and just go with the shorts. Nope, it was definitely the shorts that were the issue.
Not wanting to miss the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful Colorado afternoon out hiking, I decided to grin and 'bare' it. I tried to concentrate on the scenery, but the atomic wedgie these pants were providing me made it very difficult to do so. Granted, I don't have skinny legs and have a more muscular physique, it became very apparent that these pants were designed for people who don't have much 'shape' to their bodies and are more stick like. Clearly they weren't designed for me.
I did learn a valuable lesson though. When trying on any outdoor gear, do your best to simulate actual use when trying on clothing. Do squat, bend over, get into positions that you might find yourself doing out on the trail. Don't try them on and give a quick look at your backside and let that be the final judgement. If so, you may find yourself suitably regretting that decision just a few feet down the trial as I did. It was still a wonderful hike but I don't ever care to repeat the sensation.

Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
After purchasing two other pairs of very baggy 32" inseam convertible pants with North Face & Eddie Bauer brands, I decided to try these 30" from Columbia.
They looked about right in the store dressing room. But after taking them home and laundering them, let me tell you, they are actually 30" now for sure.
I'll be exchanging them for a 32" pair because the design is pretty solid. Nice normal front hand pockets unlike the REI convertibles which only have pockets about 3" deep.

Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I purchased two pairs of these pants for a two week hiking, rafting, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking and camping trip. Because of the activities, I did not want baggy or heavy pants/shorts. These were perfect. I am a long distance runner and triathlete and am consequently rather lean (5'9", 150 lbs.). That said, my legs are my engine and these pants fit me well.
The belt that came with the pants was sufficient for my purposes. I did not have any issues with the belt sleeve in the back, but I also don't like a lot of stuff hanging from my pants (I'd rather put it in my backpack or clip it to my climbing harness). The single zipper on the pant legs makes for a lighter, simpler pair of pants. The material dries fast and wears well.
From the airport to rafting and camping, Columbia really hit the mark with this product.

Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
Finally a pair of convertible pants that don't look like I'm wearing a parachute or that the crotch hangs down to my knees. REI could take a page out of Columbias book on fit. I'm a short rise guy in a long rise world, not everyone is a perfect 32 waist and inseam. Kudos from us not so perfectly built guys.I use these pants mostly to bike commute. Great in the morning when its cooler and perfect to zip off the legs for the afternoon. I can dress them up with a nice shirt and dress shoes for a night out with the wife. I have three pair and I think I'm going to get another pair before they change them.

Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
It generally impossible to find a top that matches the pants in color, so buy them when they first come in.
Most other pants of this type have zippers on the bottom which prevents them from being hemmed up. This one doesn't.

Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I bought these pants to do some easy car camping in, picking them up in Seattle and wearing them on the drive out to Rainier. By the time the tent was set up and the sleeping bags were out, the stitching below the zipper was already broken and unraveled. I know it can be difficult to stitch rip-stop fabric, but I can't imagine what would happen to these pants if I kept them. Going back to the store immediately!

Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
If you wear Levis 30x30 you'll love these. They fit true....the first pair of hiking pants I've found without the baggy legs and where the 30" inseam is actually 30 inches. They come with a small belt but REI does have a web belt that will fit thru the sleeve (which I already had). I ski and snowshoe all winter, backpack and hike all summer with several 14000 ft peaks each year so I don't really have "skinny legs".

Comments about Columbia Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
Almost as good as the Columbia "Titanium" model, but falls short in a couple of areas. It only has 2 beltloops. Both of these are located in the front hipbone area. The remaining 50% (from one side, around back and to the other side) is a "sleeve", if you will. If you need to wear a belt for anything (carrying a holster, multi-tool, flashlight etc.), you won't be able to fit an avg. belt in these pants. You'll have to use the cheap 3/4" strap that these pants come with, and because of the "belt sleeve" design, you won't be able to attach anything to the stock belt. I'm glad I only bought one of these (ordered it online). Had I seen these in the store, I would've recognized immediately its shortcomings. They also feel a lot snugger in the waist and thigh area than the "Titanium" model. Overall, this wouldn't be a bad choice if you have skinny get-away sticks for legs and you have no use for a belt. So I decided to write this review in order to help inform any potential buyers.
