From a late spring frost to a brisk fall night, the Kelty Cosmic Down +20° sleeping bag provides exceptional warmth at a great price.
- Soft, high-loft 550-fill-power down insulation provides exceptional warmth and light weight
- Slant baffle construction with differential cut eliminates cold spots; inner layer is cut smaller than the outer layer to create consistent thickness of insulation
- Ground-level side seam keeps draft tube in place, further helping prevent cold air from seeping through the zipper
- Polyester taffeta creates a smooth yet durable shell; polyester taffeta lining breathes for comfort and feels great against skin
- Top baffle draft collar drapes comfortably over neck and shoulders, sealing out drafts
- Cozy hood has drawcords of differing widths at head and neck for easy identification and adjustment in the dark
- Draft tube backing 3/4-length, 2-way, locking zipper keeps cold air from seeping through
- Internal loops provide attachment for a liner (sold separately) to increase the warmth of the bag
- Pad loops provide attachment points to keep your sleeping bag and pad together, so you needn't worry about rolling onto the cold, hard ground (straps not included)

This is a great sleeping back for Scout-aged kids that need a warm, but low-weight bag for backpacking and camping. It comes in a shorter length that will accommodate younger people (and those who will top-out under 5'6", okay), so they need not carry the weight or size of sleeping bag they won't use.
The Cosmic isn't cut as a "tight mummy" so there's room to move around in it. It's very well built, with a full-zip side, a nice draft collar and now a diagonal-shingle baffle construction that makes this bag simply a screaming deal for the money and weight.
It fits easily into the bag compartment of backpacks and will enable the owner to carry a light, comfortable bag. Our Boy Scout loves his, loves how simple a down bag is to compress/pack (compared to Quallofil) and reports it's very easy to sleep in and to adjust for temperature with the zipper. 2 pounds lighter than his synthetic, it's essential to a light backpack for his treks.

I'm writing this review for the 2010 model so caveat emptor (buyer beware).
This bag is WARM! I was lying on cold concrete in 15 degree weather with a thermarest pad wearing only boxers and a t shirt and I was TOASTY!
This thing is way lighter than my old clunker synthetic fill bag. It packs super tiny, too!
My only complaints are the bag is a bit tight if you roll around of squirm in your sleep and the zippers get caught on the shell. Maybe Kelty will beef up the zippers an make it idiot proof.
I am 6' tall and find the regular model to be just snug enough. I would get the long version if i were to buy it again.... There's not any extra room and I'm not overweight by any means.

This bag is great, I have the large 2010 version. it is very roomy especially compared to some ultra efficient tight fitting sleeping bags (example TNF cat's meow). I think the rating is fairly accurate too, for the price you can't ask for much more.
On the second thought, why not ask for me.
If only it had full length zip, it would be perfect. The problem (at least form my end), is that while I have never felt cold in this sleeping bag, I have been too hot and full size zip would help. Secondly, you can't mate it with another bag because all Comic Downs are right zip only. Even women's versions, I don't really get it!

Purchased this for our 8 y.o. to upgrade from an old bulky synthetic bag. The price is excellent when purchasing gear for kids that can last them for years to come. He has used it for sleep overs, car camping, and on a 4 night backpacking trip. He has never slept so well than in this bag, with temp. well below freezing at 5100 ft. and snow still on the ground.
I was wearing my hat and multiple layers and I was cold, thought about trying to get him to trade with me but he looked so comfortable.
It's also light weight and packs down pretty small so he could carry it, a thermarest, all of his clothes and snacks for the trip.
We bought the short and kind of wish we had got him the regular. So when he grows out of it I will eventually get this bag.

First of all, there is a review or two saying it absorbs water... All down bags do, that is the down side of having a down bag. If you want it to be more water resistant, get a synthetic, and deal with the extra weight and bulk.
Other that, the true test was using it on a late spring climbing trip up The Brothers in the Olympics last year. It was after the La Nina winter, and we ended up camping on snow. Between this and my thermarest pad, I was able to stay very warm, while my tent mate with his synthetic bag, didn't get any sleep because he was so cold all night. It had gotten a little moisture absorbed into it from condensation of us breathing, but that was due to not ventilating the tent that well to try and keep it warm.
The only reason I give it a 4 star instead of 5 is because I have used better sleeping bags, but for the price, this blows most others out of the water.

I bought two of these bags prior to a family camping trip in yellowstone, and they really worked out great for us. I got the short for both myself (66" and my oldest son (58") and we both fit them very nicely. These bags kept us warm and toasty down to 33˚ and I'm sure if it had gotten colder we still would have been quite warm.

After researching numerous sleeping bags for a backpacking trip to Yosemite, I opted for this sleeping bag. It seemed to be a good middle ground for price, size, and temp rating. I used the bag for 4 nights. It was warm and comfortable. The weather didn't get below the upper 30's. I'm a cold sleeper. So, I don't think i'd trust it for lower than the 30's. I'm 5'4" and found the bag to have enough room that I didn't feel restricted, like some other bags I've used. It packs up light and small. I'm happy with my purchase.

I bought three of these bags for myself and two teenagers. We used them for the first time on a weekend camping trip to Doughtat in Virginia. The tempature dropped to 34 degrees both nights. We were very comfortable and warm with the hoods up and the string drawn. The only down was having to climb out of the bags in the morning.

Got this for our 8yr to take on our second backpacking trip to replace his heavy synthetic bag. He slept better than he does at home. The baffle kept him warm when the temp dropped, the wind kicked up and the rain came down. Wish I had the bag! I love the fact that we can get good quality gear for our son at a reasonable price, hope it lasts.

This bag was perfect on my trip out to Joshua Tree. One of the nights in the desert, we had some pretty unexpected conditions - including a little snow and temps into the 30s. The bag was quite warm and kept me very comfortable throughout the whole trip. For the price, it's an excellent value, and I was most definitely pleased with my purchase.
